Yes! I know a great place to take salsa/merengue in Santo Domingo. It's a dance academy right on the bus line in a nice part of Santo Domingo. (Evening classes) It's called Ritmo Espacio de Danza, and it's on the Avenida Churchill, near La Sirena and right next to American Airlines ticket office... It's on the 2nd floor above the papeleria. It's owned by Nelia Ansellin. They might have a web page if you search for it. Ritmo also happens to serve as a practice space for dancers who work with three of the country's better modern dance choreographers...
The best way though might be to go to the clubs... There's one in a cave... Don't leave out bachata, though... You'll hear bachata everywhere, and should you go to the countryside on the southwestern coast, that's likely the dance of choice!
