Hello, I'm trying to compile a little database of merengueros and their catchphrases, but am having trouble coming up with them myself. You know how most merengue artists repeat their own names throughout the song, and then usually have some catchy phrase that people associate to them? So far, I have:

BENNY SADEL................Majao majao

LA BANDA GORDA............Y qu? lo qu?...Duriiiiiiiiisimo

ELVIS CRESPO.........Peque?a - ?chate pa'ca

KINITO MENDEZ........Nyeah (sp?)

And that's all I can come up with!

Help me out? Tks.

How about Fernandito: "?Esa!"

and Milly has a characteristic cry that I cannot put into words and that Olga Ta?on has been unable to imitate/duplicate, no matter how often she tries!

Thanks for playing, Keith - isn't this fun? I think Milly's cry is sort of a "Ayyyyyyyyyyyieeeeeeeee" and I think Villalona says "Eso!" in that lazy "o" way.

Can someone corroborate this:

LOS HERMANOS ROSARIO..........Bomba

Sorry, JJ, but it sounds more like Fernandito is saying "esa". Seems more in character too, somehow, as if he's pointing at some dominicana in the crowd... He also often says "llegue" at the start of his songs...
Man, now this has me singing -- going to be difficult to finish work!

The salsero Raulin usually says :"Sig Sig !"
Some merengue band used to say : "El Cuchillo!"
I think Raffy Matias says :"Pero con fuerza !"
And that stupid sounding Mala Fe is usually screaming "beaeaeaeahhhh!"

Sorry, JJ, but it sounds more like Fernandito is saying "esa".

But Keith, "eso!", loosely translated, means "there you go!" and "esa!" would mean "that female one". It's definitely eso!.

What about Jonny Ventura? Was it only for the Barcelo ads that he said, "ay, qu? rico, mami!"?

Thanks Suarezn, that was a good list. I have a bunch of songs that have 'Pero con Coco' as the last line in it, I didn't know it came from La Coco Band! I forgot Hasta las Quince de la Man~ana too!
