What's next? It is bad enough the states are returning dominicans with criminal records back to the DR so they can exact their acquired trades against their own people. Now, things have gotten so unwelcome there for Iron Mike, he is opting to come to the DR to train. I hope Bavaro Palace and the authorities ready to cope with the package he is bringing. The area could use the money and publicity. But, at what cost? Dominican papa's better hide their daughters. Regards, PJT

I think it's a good thing regardless of his reputation.

The fight with Lewis is billed as the biggest ever so I'm sure it will receive a huge amount of exposure, this can do Punta Cana no harm.

I just hope the locals and hotel community can capitalize on this.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is the single greatest one-event entertainment attraction in the world today. So what if he is the last Neanderthal alive today, or that he may leave at least 20 Dominicans without ears by the time he's ready to leave.

If Luis Miguel was the best concert ever in DR, this fight with Lewis will make the concert look like a cock fight in Haina. I will be the first one in line to buy a ticket. Hell, I would even pay $500 to see him sparring. Can you imagine the possibilities with this monster. This is a country that enjoys cock, dog and even women street fights.

What's next?

Yes folks, Mike Tyson's ship (of Chopos) is coming to Punta Cana and the exposure can do no harm outwardly. He and his group are going to throw money around like there is no end to it. There will be 100 dollar bills and rose petals floating in the waters off Bavaro, Cabeza de Toro and Punta Cana. This will be great for the resorts and supporting commercial enterprises. Hype!!!

It is of because of Mike Tyson's reputation and criminal record that it would be reasonable for the government require he post some sort of bond to insure that he and his shipmates will behave as guests of the country. But, let's get serious. We know the government won't do it. They will have their own hidden agenda with the Tyson camp.

In the end. Tyson's ship will depart, the 100 dollar bills will be lining some fat cat's pocket and the rose petals will have drifted off to prepare for some New Years Parade in Calif.

What will Punta Cana be left with? The discharge from Tyson's ship and something to talk about for a long time. Regards, PJT

Mike Tyson

One of the best events to happen to the Dr. Too bad that Lewis is not training there too.

Is Boxing a chopo sport?

Tony C:

In answer to your question, local DR boxing is a chopo sport. World Championship Boxing is a world class event for every class. Just watch who sits in the VIP area of a Mike Tyson match.

Ever saw a Muhammad Ali fight? Check who's who in the front rows. This is the ultimate sport. Equivalent of seeing two male lions fighting for territory. Tyson may be getting a bad rap. I believe some of his antics are publicity stunts and history setting clues to what he wants to see printed in the history books. There is no sport event I would rather watch than a Tyson competitive heavyweight title fight. No event carries this much electricity.

I saw the Foreman-Frazier fight live on a theater screen and I have never experienced so much excitement for two rounds. Even a one round Tyson fight is exciting.

Yeah golo, you hit it right on the dot. That frazier-foreman fight was the best. Every punch Foreman threw frazier went down. I was shocked to see that a man with jaw of steel went down so easily. Then came the upset of the century, Ali-foreman. Ali was known to be an excellent fighter, who had so much trouble with frazier but who would have thought he was going to knock out foreman?
Boxing is the ultimate sport; i would break any date (with any model girl) just to catch a tyson fight.

Foreman-Frazier fight

AZB:

I still remember those two rounds vividly. First it was the scariest moment of the fight....the intimidating Foreman stare. I could not believe my eyes when I saw Frazier's look in his eyes. It was the same as other fighters before him. They just froze in fear. And to think that Frazier was like Tyson at the time..unbeatable.

In the second round, Foreman just winged his huge arms in wide upper cut fashion and just wiped Frazier out of the map. The last hit was an upper to the chi that lifted Frazier up in the air and sent him out to the ropes, almost out. Incredible ending. This was the greatest show of power and demolition ever.

Styles have a lot to do with fight results. Frazier was made perfect for Foreman. Frazier knew of no way to fight but up front and aggresive. He never turned back. Ali was a smart tactician who noticed Foreman's devastating power and developed a way to use it against him.

Championship Boxing is the king of all Chopo Sports! Is there any athlete more chopo than a boxer? Who attends these matches? Actors, singers, and other entertainers. All Chopos. Where do most of the Fights happen? Las Vegas! The Capital of Chopo-land!
As for Mr. Ali. Why should I support a draft-dodging coward like him?
Why do you want to glorify a thug and a rapist like Tyson?

I am against this Tyson thing. He is a felon, and he should not be allowed to enter the country.

that said, I hope he uses all the HIV positive young women in the area...

I am sure that the cr?me de l? cr?me will not be there except as they like to watch monkeys in a zoo....

Louis, Marciano, Patterson, Cassius Clay were fighters....Foreman, Frazier...Nobody ever better than the light heavy that no one would fight....what was his name? Nearly KO's Marciano? Damn, I hate it when I forget things...He was super, so good that no one would fight him...late 40s and early 50s...

Oh well, now boxing sucs.

My two favourites of all time: Ali, who was not a coward, he stood on his convictions and fought his way thru the court system and won. He could have gone anywhere in the world and continued to fight but he chose to fight for a principle instead.

Second, Sugar Ray Robinson..poise, poetry, and POW, you're gone.

Ali used his supposed Islamic faith as an excuse to get out of serving his country. A country that paid for his training as an Olympian. Yet he was a womanizer, a drunk, a wife beater, a pugilist and committed fraud. All of these acts are sins under Islamic code. In my book he is Coward and a hipocrite.

Hillbilly, I think your man was Ezzard Charles. He was a light heavyweight, had three fights with Jersey Joe Walcott, the first one he won and earned the heavyweight title, in the third fight with Jersey Joe he lost the crown. He had two fights with Marciano in 1954. 1st fight went the 15 rounds, win went to Rocky. 2nd fight lasted eight rounds, KO went to Rocky. In the second fight Rocky's nose was split, it almost cause the fight to be stopped. Regards, PJT

No, I was not thinking of Charles, I remember those battles..this guy was a light heavy, used to have a famous "banana" diet to make weight. he used a "Peek-a-boo" style of holding his arms across his face. The famous foto in SI shows Marciano going down, and this guy-damn- his right coming from outer space, his face a grimace of strength, and just missing taking off Marciano's head by a fraction of an inch......he lost, later in the match. Great come back for Marciano, but this guy was just too old by then...
Talk about Dominican's falsifying age! How about those boxers of old?

Hb

Could it have been Charles?? I don't remember him ever winning the Heavyweight Title...Time dulls all things...for some reason I think the guy had three names....WTF do I know...

EZZARD CHARLES

EZZARD CHARLES never weighed more than 200 pounds, but he was an outstanding heavyweight champion. Charles was undefeated as an amateur and won the 1939 AAU National middleweight title before turning pro in 1940.
Many of Charles' early fights were against the world's top middleweight and light heavyweights. He defeated the likes Teddy Yarosz, Charley Burley and Joey Maxim and drew with Ken Overlin.

After military service during World War II, Charles defeated Hall-of-Famer Archie Moore and avenged losses to Lloyd Marshall and Jimmy Bivins to earn a No. 2 ranking at light heavyweight in 1946. He fought five light heavyweight champions, beating four of them, but never challenged for the light heavyweight crown.

Charles finally won the vacant NBA heavyweight title by defeating Jersey Joe Walcott in 1949. He earned worldwide recognition as heavyweight king the next year by decisioning an aged Joe Louis. After three successful defenses of the undisputed crown, he lost the title in a third battle with Walcott.

After Walcott lost to Rocky Marciano, Charles challenged the Rock in two unforgettable fights. The first time Marciano retained the title on a close decision and, two months later, stopped Charles in the eighth round of a fight that was nearly stopped because Marciano's nose was split open.

Archie Moore

Hillbilly, I can see by Moore's record, 141 ko's, as the reason why he was avoided. He had 27 years in the ring and the distinction of being the only boxer to have faced Marciano and Ali. It was in 1955 he faced Marciano and dropped him early in the fight. Marciano went on to win in the ninth. Moore was about 42 when he faced Rocky and 49 when he went against Ali. His age has been disputed, maybe the reason for your comment about falsifying age. George Foreman you still have a shot, you're only 54. Regards, PJT
