Resorts and vacation centers have been operating under less restrictive guidelines, but on occasion of the new spike in Covid-19 cases, the government issued Decree 349-21 dated 31 May 2021 ordering more restrictions. On 2 June, and on occasion of the Corpus Christi long weekend, the Ministry of Tourism has issued a series of rules that apply to vacation centers nationwide.

These are:Hotels must limit their occupancy to 70%. The measure will be revised every 30 days.

Restaurants located in residential-touristic complexes need to respect the curfew schedule established in Decree 349-21 that is 50% of capacity and no more than six persons per table. The resolution specifies this includes Cap Cana, Casa de Campo and locations in Punta Cana.

In the touristic locations of Las Terrenas in Samana and Cabarete in Puerto Plata, restaurants are allowed to remain open until 7pm...

No one can logically follow all the rules - it is absurd they keep vacillating and issuing new edicts.
If I were a tourist - I would find a new destination until the DR quits trying to be the Debbie Downer of vacations

This only affects a small percentage of tourists. Those that go to the AI resorts continue to party hardy.

There are quite a few restrictions which will affect the AI's. All activities need to end at 9pm. Occupancy maximum 70%. No day passes. Only 6 per table. No nightclubs or discos.

If that's true, they better end this after one week, or nobody will be going to the resorts either.

It's there in black and white, you need to click on "continue reading". IMO the way the numbers are looking, these restrictions are here for quite a few weeks.

If I had booked a week at a resort here and this is what I get when I came down - I'd be furious.

Actually, reading the fine print, they are saying that the AI's must stick to 50% capacity in their restaurants. Most of them are operating on lower staffing and have a lot of restaurants closed. I can imagine this is going to lead to pretty long lines. Wouldn't be fun.

I can see all the guests at the resorts posting this on Facebook. Wouldn't surprise me if there are massive cancellations. That's what the government deserves for a boneheaded move like this. Who's going to want to book a vacation at a resort here anytime soon if they think that, at the drop of a hat, the government will impose these kinds of restrictions?

They make themselves clowns with issuing these decrees..

Use of motorcycles, four wheels within the beaches - it was already prohibited long time ago, some years before Covid.

The use of hookahs or similar devices is banned nationwide, even inside resorts and hotels. - Hookahs were banned in a whole country long time ago, how many times something has to be banned to be finally banned?

I think they forgot to include that all motorcycle drivers must use helmets.

Actually, in the short term, the AI people will be happy. Reduced occupancy in restaurants = longer lines = people will eat less. No entertainment after 9pm = people will drink less. They already have the guests' money, they just provide less food and drinks, so it costs them less.

My wife and I did 3 AI stays in the past 2 months. The covid changes we saw where not that bad. No big shows, all had smaller shows but where not well attended. Swim up bars where closed. The alacarte restaurants where on a rotating schedule. You had to wear a glove and/or mask in the buffets and they did most of the serving.

Overall we had a great time in each. Occupancy was at 50% of maximum. We also went mid week as I could not bear to watch Dominicans behaving poorly for a weekend. At the prices some of these hotels are offering they are getting a bunch of locals who have the manners of a farm animal at feeding time. Not a pretty site.

Usually the ones that don't drop their prices cater to a finer mannered clientele. The Dominicans we encountered at Majestic Mirage where great fun loving people that had respect for other guests.

In previous years hotels such as Excellence, Ocean El Faro and other true 5 star properties had several Dominicans when we visited but they where great people. It's the younger self entitled ones that push, shove and are just plain rude that I have no desire to watch or socialise with.

I have never once met an American who had no manners or was rude. They don't exist.
