After being in DR for almost 20 years (on and off) I just recently discovered Moringa seeds and how beneficial for your health they are. There are a few trees in Sosua but not too many, supposedly there's lots in the campos. Can anyone recommend any other healthy gems that can be found in DR which are not that known (like avocados 😁)?

I eat raw seeds, 4-5 a day. The story I got from my Dominican friend is there used to be a lot more trees around but during Covid people knew of the benefits and were using the leaves to make the tea, but instead of picking the leaves of the trees they'd just cut the branch off with a machete and take it home, so they ruined a lot of the trees.

On the North Coast, moringa trees are often found on the perimeter of cattle fields. Farmers plant them to have a source of feed for the cattle when rainfall is scarce and grass isn't growing. There is lots of moringa in the Sosua/Cabarete area.

Fresh is better. If you have the land to grow the trees you know the conditions of the harvest.
This is really just common sense. Anyone who has ever grown a garden for themselves knows fresh is better. Hasn't anyone any experienced the difference between fresh grown spices even if is just in a container garden on a balcony?

Do I have specific experience?
With moringa seeds? No!
But I do drink the tea. I buy it from Amazon and I have bought it locally in Bravo (I think).
Everything I know about the Moringa tree I have learned from reading books, the internet and watching you tube

Have a friend who raises cattle that does the same thing.

We're growing 50 Tareas of Moringa in our farm in La Victoria to supply a company out of Sosua that makes oil for the Beauty Industry. Check them out www.moringaia.com (miracle oil). They're at all DR airports. These folks are amazing and have offered to buy as many "baquetas" that we can supply them. Moringa leaves are also good for chickens and livestock. We have yet to tap into the many benefits of this plant. Our goal is to use the whole plant.
