At the rate Haitians reproduce,
I am surprised we aren't one of the top three most populated.

It’s already among the top 10. The goal is to dethrone Java. o_O

In all those islamds with perhaps Kalimantan (I though that island was Borneo? Such an easier name!) being an exception overall life is better than on the western third of Hispaniola.

That’s a continent, not an island
Interesting. The continent of Australia includes fourteen countries, including New Zealand and the separate country of Australia, so I would have thought that qualified it as a country. But what do I know? Never mind!

What? Manhattan easily takes the cake. Over 1 million in a space considerably smaller than Long Island (which in reality includes Queens and Brooklyn!) Then add all the people that don’t live in Manhattan but work/eat/play there, plus the tourists... Part of Manhattan is slowly sinking due to all the heavy skyscrapers there, a sign of how crowded is the place.

On another note, it’s very obvious why Long Island is named like that. From much of the CT coast Long Island is very visible with the naked eye.
