Guess MTV wants to do for Dominicans what they did for Italians with Jersey Shore. My children and grandchildren don't have a chance.

I agree. Glorifying and spreading the ruinous Dom York ghetto lifestyle does no one any good. Especially the Dominican Community at large.

Leave it to MTV to make low academic achievement (big dreams = baseball, fashion and rapping) idiotic/dangerous behavior (drunken drama in nightclubs) and social problems (not enough money to pay rent) look cool. I agree with the previous sentiments, this show looks like gardbadge!

i agree about it not being done correct..they will just show crazy stuff and make dominicans look bad. reality shows are rarely reality ..reality is boring. my wife hates it if i post pictures of dominicans doing crazy things on facebook. i have to agree with her.

A high school friend is the director and producer of the series. From what he tells me the show is made to attract a wide audience by highlighting the stories of young Dominicans striving to succeed in the United States. Not exactly, Jersey Shore material.

Let's give time time and see how the series is accepted by the broader viewing public.

If those "mamalukes" on Jersey Shore was able to make millions with their show, why not some Dominicans from NYC be able to do the same?

BTW Unless you are 15 to 25 years old I don't think you should have a NEGATIVE comment about the show, because many of you are not the target audience.

I know understand that only the target audience should respond about the tripe being shown on TV.

Wow!!! Some of these posts in this thread is just so "UNFAIR" The show has NOTHING to do with Dominicans as a whole, but everything to do with the cast members of the show. The momment many of you see the words Dominican and New York right away you think something negative.

This is a GREAT thing for these cast members and their families, but leave it up to some of you to turn something positive into something bad. I bet when "Laguna Beach The Real Orange County" was on MTV NOBODY had a problem with these SPOLIED ASS RICH KIDS, but when it is time for Dominicans and NYC to shine on MTV everbody think they will give Dominicans a bad name.

I do not watch these type of shows, but I will watch this show just to show support to the cast members trying to improve their lives and their family lives.

Whites and African Americans have dominated this segment for decades, don't some of you think it is time for other people to have that same opportunity?

BTW I want many of you " so called posters that have so much respect for Dominicans" to notice how JMB773 ALWAYS referred to these people as " cast members" not Dominicans. Many of you have a hard time separating the person from the Dominican. Example:

My Dominican wife oppose to " my wife who is Dominican"

Hmm... For some reason, I feel this thread is the appropriate place for this:

Could be a sign of things to come... :paranoid:

The issue isn't the behavior of reality TV participants or the demographic they are supposedly "representing". The issue is viewers and/or critics automatically correlating bottom feeders and their attention-grabbing behaviors to those it doesn't pertain to.

Young people being portrayed as aspiring rappers, designers and athletes is a youth issue, not a sign of a particular cultural malaise specifically ingrained in the personalities of every young Dominican in Washington Heights.

Besides, reality TV has mined the depths of Southern white trash, dysfunctional pregnant teenagers, recovering celebrity addicts, etc. ad nauseum. Young, urban Latinos were bound to be next.

Evelyn Losada, one of the most vile creatures to ever be cast on a reality television series, doesn't represent me because she's Puerto Rican any more than someone from the cast of the "Jersey Shore" represents any American on this board of Italian descent.

There is no such thing as collective guilt when it comes to perceived cultural patterns of behavior. I'm no more responsible for the acts of anyone as they are for mine.

Having said all that, the show will be interesting for one thing and one thing only-how stupid the characters behave. That's what it all boils down to on reality television. As for me, I'll be reading a book or going to the gym. Does that make me any more or less a Puerto Rican from the Bronx? Rhetorical question, as my life doesn't revolve around the opinions of others or their ignorant stereotypes.

grumpy old posters, you! ;)

last time i checked those halfwits from jersey shore were making 125.000 dollars per episode. if that's not an american dream of from zero to hero come true then i do not know what is...
and then there is lots of money to be made out of that 15 minutes: get fat, get thin, have a kid, marry, divorce, participate in dancing with wannabes and hasbeens, take part in celebrity rehab, celebrity fat camp, celebrity couple therapy, have a sex tape leaked out, get arrested for DUI, cry about depression... so many opportunities!
