Norwegian Cruise Lines is the first cruise company to include a stopover of one of its ships at the Cabo Rojo cruise ship terminal under construction in Pedernales, in the southwest. The construction of the terminal begins this year and is expected to be ready for the March 2024 stopover by the NCL ship.

NCL announces that the ship Norwegian Sky is including Cabo Rojo in one of its nine-day, nine ports cruises. Passengers can board the ship first in Punta Cana at 5:30pm on Monday. The ship then visits Cabo Rojo in Pedernales from 8am to 3pm on Tuesday. It then sails to Willemstad, Curacao on Wednesday; Oranjestad, Aruba on Thursday; Kralendijk, Bonaire on Friday, from 6am to 2:30pm; St. George, Granada on Saturday, from 12 noon to 8pm; Bridgetown, Barbados from 8am to 5pm; Castries, St. Lucia from 7am to 2pm; Tortola, British Virgin Islands from 8:30am to 3pm and...

Is there a ghost port in Punta Cana? A suggested port would be La Romana.

Regards,

PJT
It is La Romana as the departure port for a NCL Caribbean cruise. Cabo Rojo is the first port of call.

You are quite right;

Seems NCL equates La Romana with Punta Cana.

One would think the Ministry of Tourism would correct/clarify instead of just posting what NCL likely produced as a press release/marketing piece.

But, Punta Cana does have far more name recognition internationally than La Romana.

In the article it says it will be ready for the March 2024 cruise, but in their website the first cruise to include Cabo Rojo starts in January 2024.

Notice the itinerary map doesn't show Cabo Rojo.

There is no cruiser terminal at Cabo Rojo all there is a large pier made of rocks and filthy bauxite that has been used to transport the material by sea. The entry road is also made of bauxite. Unless suddenly in the last month facilities have been built for these large cruise ships to dock and unless in the last month there are immigration facilities and such things as restrooms ,then there is absolutely nothing at Cabo Rojo . Far better to get the thing properly set up before cruise ships stop there.

Maybe between now and 2024 (cruise date) a cruise terminal will be built? But since cruise itineraries are subject to change, time will tell if Cabo Rojo will actually be a port stop for the cruise.

Well, they have some time to build a pier and transfer by tender boats. I am guessing it will be private, like "Labadee" with zip lines and such. Tourism
