Need Help Exam for Driving Permit

I am writing for my husband. He is going to Puerto Plata on Thursday to take the written exam for his driving permit. He went about a week ago and freaked out when he found out it was in Spanish. (???....of course it is in Spanish!)

We investigated and learned that he could go to Santo Domingo and take the exam in English. When he returned to Puerto Plata to get his paperwork back and he told them what he was going to do, I guess they felt bad. The lady in charge came out of her office and said that he could return with someone who spoke Spanish and English to translate the test for him.

So now we are looking for someone to do that. We know people who can speak Spanish, but don't read it. What we need is someone to accompany my husband to Puerto Plata, read the test questions and translate them to English (rapidly) while my husband takes the test.

I understand that men who work in the local driving schools would be best. Anybody know someone who is bilingual?

Or is anyone willing to do a good deed and accompany my husband.

He is willing to pay.

Thanks-
Lindsey

If I was on the north coast I would volunteer with my pigeon Spanish. (I do have a DR license). In my absence have your husband take 5000 pesos with him and things should work out.
It wouldn't in Santo Dom but it used to work on the north coast.
Best of luck!!

Unless it has changed in the past 5 or 6 years ( when i took the theory test thingy ) your husband does not need much spanish to sit, and pass, the test. It was a computer test, multiple answer type, mainly " child style " cartoonish pictures.
A bit of common sense, just enough spanish to be able to buy stuff at the local colmado and it should be a breeze.

That is what I remember too, it was a piece of cake. I was nervous (even with speaking Spanish) before going but for nothing :D

Thanks. That was the way it was for me, too- a photo or short video and the question "Who will receive the ticket?" That is not the case for current practice test.

I sat in front of a computer monitor to take the test. My husband say it is now paper and pencil. Everyone takes it at the same time.

My husband has been on the Intrant practice test alone and with a friend who speaks English and Spanish and the friend did not know many of the vocabulary words used in reference to driving. It asked about car parts, and the specific order to be followed when you see various signs that say the same thing (ex. traffic light, stop sign, pedestrian walking sign, traffic cop, etc.)

On one of the practice tests there were photos, but the photos did not actually appear either on our phones or computers, just blue boxes with a question mark.

I know some Dominicans - who are university educated- who did not pass recently.

Just makes us a little more cautious.

I went in Nauga had a spanish friend with me who was allowed to read the question to me ( he could not see the video. I answered the questions. passed the actual drive test was a hoot--- drove down a one way street the wrong way as per the instructor, parell parked . I watched locals park - nose in ass end out and they passed.

I changed around my work schedule and will go with my husband to read and translate the test. I did not want to assume this responsibility, in case he does not pass. But am biting the bullet and will accompany him.

Wish me luck.

I took the test yesterday and passed. I didnt think I would. There werent too many driving type questions. Quite a few on the car ie what does the battery do , what does the coolant do why do you have oil in the car , when you put the key in the car and noting happens what does that mean. what type of drivers license covers cars big busses and heavy equipment,
