Can anyone tell me a little bit about higuey, that is where I will be staying when I go. Pictures, stories any thing would be very helpful.

I think it is one of those few places here with not a lot to recommend it.
It is a city of cattlemen. it is a cross roads for people goingto Bavaro or Punta Cana or Sabana de la Mar.
it has the national Cathedral and on the 24th of jan it is filled with people.
It is far from the beaten path., Both mentally and physically...

Higuey
I have been to Higuey once and it look like a nice place to me except that there is no beach around. The cathedral is very nice with a special architecture. I've been to a local restaurant to eat mondongo and poeple were very kind and gentle.
Sorry I can't tell you much more. I was on my way to Samana de la Mar through Hato Mayor and I have met tremendous campesinos.
