I have a friend (name edited by request) whose flight plans got messed up and he is being rerouted to the capital.

He has to spend a night in Santo Domingo and I was wondering if anyone out there has the phone number of a cabbie that won't rip him off getting from the airport into the city and approximately how much he would have to pay.

He is going to Avenida Independencia near El Conde.

His flight leaves at in one hour(5:30 pm Eastern Standard Time) so I don't have much time to get him the info.

If anyone can help a fellow DR1 member out it would be greatly appreciated.

it has been posted before that if you go up to the departure level and stand there with your bags a cabbie that has dropped someone off will look for a hook rather than just going back to SD or waiting in the cab line at the arrival level. He may be able to negotiate for 15-20 dollars. not sure, but definetly cheaper than at arrival level. May need to wait 10-15 mins.

Actually I have a bit more time to send him the info, as I can just call and leave a message and he'll check his messages when he lands.

But the faster the better...:cheeky:

Well the 'Fellow DR1 member' should have arrived by now & (if your message was passed on to him) will have been grateful for your input B-C Dave - I KNOW I would have been!! Normally when I go travelling I organise a a hire car at my arrival airport but I will certainly use your suggestion next time I get 're-routed' or need a taxi from airport. A sensible idea I had not considered & I suspect a number of posters likewise! THANKS!;)! ~ Grahame.

Very grateful indeed. Thanks Berzin!!!!!

I ended up paying alot more than I thought because all the roads were flooded and all the taxis were no where to be found.

I ended up staying the night in SD and the next day took the bus to Higuey and then to Punta Cana.

This storm was not foreseen in my plans.
