Another "The next Punta Cana"
That's the promise:

- Pedernales = Cabo Rojo bay
- Bani = Puntarena (owned by Rainieri family, creators of Puntacana)
- Cangrejo/Montellano = Punta Bergantin
- Playa Esmeralda @ Miches = Tropicalia

The goal is to squeeze every virgin spot in the country and make it private and similar as Punta Cana

A new airport on the north coast. Gotta be joshing me. I guess it is possible. Is 5,000 houses enough?
Don't worry, it will probably get only two flights a day during high season for another 10 years. They should make agreements with airlines to fly to Puerto Plata airport more - at least that would serve the growing number of expats in the North Coast

It isn’t as if they are going to be building another Orlando Intl which in land area alone is bigger than many Dominican towns. lol

For an airport to be international all it needs is to accept flights from abroad, have personnel related to Migración and aduana, and maybe one or two more things.

La Isabela airport is itty bitty tiny, yet international. This is small by Dominican standards where in general international airports tend to be small (with the exception of Punta Cana.)

I don’t see what is the issue with another international airport, this time in Montecristi. The DR is a small country, but however small you think it’s, it’s bigger than that.

Btw, the Barahona airport too is international. Yeah, people there are complaining about the airplane noise.

La Romana airport is also international. While more active than Barahona’s, it isn’t under a constant departing/landing of airplanes whether they are domestic or international.

Another "The next Punta Cana" What happened to Pedernales ?

Infrastructure, airport and hotels are all being built. Two hotels are slated to be ready by the end of 2025. My hope is that it does not turn into a Punta Cana.

The port at Cabo Rojo has been receiving many of the cruise ships since last year.

Montecristi is still in the dreaming stage.

Has anyone noticed how badly airlines have been performing recently? American / Delta / Iberia have all had steep drops in share price (even before the latest melt-down due to tariffs). I think we're going to see considerably less people flying quite soon.

Like during the pandemic there will always be the Iberia Madrid to Santo Domingo flight and the AA NYC to Santo Domingo.

There were a couple of years when Iberia pulled the daily service from Madrid to Santo Domingo. However, I think you're right, they have earmarked that route for more flights, going up to almost twice daily next winter.

It would be better if they allocated about $10,000 to fix all the leaking water pipes in Samana before spending billions on a new airport.

Definitely if the predicted world wide recession actually happens.
