Hello to all. Over the past few months I`ve made several posts asking about Dominican Products located here in Canada or the U.S. and have basically come up empty. There seems to be a ton of info on importing into the D.R.; contacts, companies, procedures, Aduanas, and all, but not much on Exports.

Im sure there are many experienced members that can contribute to a new forum on Exporting. Its a win/win situation, companies and members of this board can make new contacts abroad, and Dominican products can enter new markets.

I have contacted CEI-RD so many times its not funny, they have helped, I must admit, but not what you would expect of a govenmemt agency dedicated to promoting Dominican products and industry to the world.

There are many shops and websites selling Dominican products in the U.S., so there is trade going on, but not much in Canada. However Brugal (brutal) is now sold in Ontario LCBO. This is a good thing. :)

I have searched the archives and it seems there are many posts with people trying to locate Dominican products, myself included. Lets here from the people in the business, importers and exporters, owners of Zona Francas, shipping companies, etc. I honestly think this would be a great forum and benefit many. What do you think????

Have a great day,

Campesino...

We can help by merging any thread with questions on possible exports to this thread. Post the questions and let's see if dr1 can help come up with answers and connect people.

Zona Franca Owners

Good Day. Thank you for your reply Dolores. If there is anyone who knows of someone that exports Dominican products to Miami, or another place in the USA?
What about companies that produce Artisian products?
Zona Francas, what products are made, who exports to Canada??
What about, Maggi, Baldom, Chocolate Embajdor and especially coffee, things like this??

Lets hear from those involved in the above trades.

Exporters here are national heroes. There is much paperwork and unnecessary expenses involved. It's easier to import than to export.

There is an exporters association (Adoexpo).

There is CEI-RD (they keep the export statistics -- who exports what to where) and the National Competitiveness Council trying to make it easier for the DR to export.

What specifically do you want to know?

Everything you named

Already has a US Importer. The deals are for exclusivity.

Most Dominican products of any reknown have been trademarked in the US by a few very savvy people and things like INDUVECA have to pay royalties to them for shipping their products to the States.

There are opportunities for cigars, macadamia nuts, organic fruits, some veggies, and maybe coffee. Jewelry is also possible.

As you've alluded to, I don't believe I've seen Santo Domingo brand coffee in the US.

Exporting

This is all great information, thanks to all. Hard to believe its that difficult to export. Coffee can be found in the USA, but difficult, and not sold wholesale, so per pound its kind of expensive $8-$10 plus shipping. Almost impossible to find here in Canada. I have contacted all of the companies I mentioned in my first thread, only a couple actually have a USA contact. Anyone know of contacts for coffee in the USA?
Keep up the great work.
