Alexandra Cedeño, the director of Sustainable Mobility at the National Transport and Transit Institute (Intrant), is on a media tour to explain to the population in Greater Santo Domingo the new measures that 700 newly outfitted Digesett agents will be supervising implementation as of 1 July. Greater Santo Domingo is about the National District, the capital city with about one million inhabitants and the surrounding province of Santo Domingo with around two million inhabitants, who mostly work and study in the National District.

The new RD Se Mueve (DR Moves) strategy is being rolled out in phases in the National District and has four key components. Free up the streets! Government agencies centralized Santo Domingo should have satellites throughout the country offering full services. For example, why can't foreigners, already having obtained legal residencies, be able to secure a "no vota" cedula at the municipality nearest his home, rather than endure the urban travel hell to get to required JCE Centro Servicios in Santo Domingo? JCE facilities already exist in the local municipalities, adding services for foreigners should not be problematic. Likewise, legal permanent residents to starting residency renewal have regional Migracion offices and local medical exam facilities available However, foreigners still have to go to Santo Domingo for biometrics and to receive the residency carnet. If Migracion offices exist outside of Santo Domingo why can't they do the biometrics and issue carnets at those locations? Suggest the present government attitude of centralization is a holdover of the old postures of leaders and government services controlling everything, that all must be tasked only from and in Santo Domingo. Times change... government needs to release the public from having to travel to Santo Domingo to obtain services. Free up the streets!

Regards,

PJT

If it make you feel any better, as a Dominican citizen I can renew,my cedula locally but I have to go to Santo Domingo to renew my passport and provide all the paperwork that was required for the original passport.

6 km/h driving speed? Might as well walk.

Or leave Santo Trafficjam altogether

Bob, What original paperwork is that? A potential passport renewal is now the only thing I might need done and still only in Santo Domingo. Dumb, but true.

Don't waste even one trip. When you hear what you need and have none of it you will forget about this .......And keep the expired one with you when you travel. Customs here knows you are a citizen with that document............

You renewed your cedula in Jarabacoa? Is that something new?

That's news to me.
