Nightlife in Puerto Plata

My boyfriend and I are going to DR for the first time, leaving Dec, 18th, 2000. I have heard that the disco is pretty dead where we are staying, the RIU in Puerto Plata. Although we want a quiet, relaxing vacation, are there any spots close by with some nighlife?

I've always liked Hemingways Cafe in Playa Dorada Plaza. They have karaoke on Thurs. nites and usually a reggae band on other nites. You could also check out Crazy Moon disco in the Paradise Resort. They play dance, pop, and Spanish. If you want to venture into town for some typical music and meet some residents, check out La Barrica. Also, if you don't mind a 20-minute cab ride, you could barhop in Sosua or check out High Carribean Disco. I should also mention the bars in Cabarete but that'll be an additional 10-minutes to the cab ride. If you're up for it, the bars are the best and my fav.

I heard the High Carribean has been temporarily closed but Willy's Disco is another good place to go!

High Carribean in Sousa is really closed for a while...

try la Barrica od Orion in Pto.Plata if you like the local music Merengue or Bachata. these are great places to dance...and the Orion offer live music with great dominican bands, too.

Hi,

I'm just back from the Dominican Republic. We stayed in the Riu Merengue (Puerto Plata). The disco of the hotel is good ( nice music)but it is closed at 2:00am and sometimes there are only a few persons. We went two times to the "Crazy Moon" a disco in Playa Dorada. Very good and it's safe there.
You make a good choice for staying in the Riu-hotel. I had a wonderfull time there.

Go to the Andromdeda in Playa Dorado Resort. We went on a Wednesday night and it started getting busy around 11. As the night wore on more and more people came. check it out.

diana is absolytely right you need to go to andromeda disco at hotel heavens its the bomb, really really really great there the people the music and the atmosfere.

Four Discos close together!

In the Playa Dorada complex, first go to Hemmingways at 8PM for supper and an intro to the nightlife; then head to Tops Disco (at the Playa Naco resort) for about 11Pm; then go to Crazy Moon (at the Paradise resort) about 12:30AM; then to Andromedia (at Heavens resort) about 1:30 and party there until 4AM. If need be, there are still places to go in POP afterwards like La Barica and the Orion! Enjoy Sunday day and night along the Malecolm - most Domincians have this day off and it's a great place just to hang out, mingle and drink the great beer and rum!

Thanks again!! I didn't know what to expect of the nightlife - looks like there are tons of spots, which is great. I was a bit afraid we would only have the disco at the resort to go to.
