North Coast Beaches

I need to get some opinions in regards to the north coast beaches.

My first visit to DR in 2009 I stayed at the Barcelo in Playa Dorada. I had a decent time. Beach was okay.

The past few times I rented a villa in costombar. I think the beach is horrible over there. Very rocky and it hurts your feet when you move around. I felt like there was no sand.

My next trip I am going to visit sousa. Will I have any issues with rocks or anything hurting my feet or is it sand and smoothe?

Also how is cabrete? I heard it's more for wind surfing than swimming.

Just wondering

Thanks

Sos?a is probably the best..of those you have mentioned. For your next trip, think Punta Rucia....

Sosua has a great beach. Its located on a bay and the water is calm and clear. If you swim off a bit (300 yards) there is an prettty large reef that is very interesting. You will need fins and a mask-snorkel but its well worth the swim. The beach is sandy and very nice. One feature that I like is Sosua Beach is tree lined so when you have had enough of the hot sun you have shade close by.

Playa Alicia (?) I think that's what it's called, by the Waterfront restaurant, is very nice.

Hey guys,

How can I get to Playa Alicia?
I always go to los charamicos but want to try something new, is it a public beach part?

It's public, just go to the end of Calle Dr. Rosen. Be careful, there is a crazy undertow, not a joke.

I love the beach in Cabarete, but it is really not for swimming. Big crazy waves.

Will say that this is not correct, there are enough days with calm waves. I live in Cabarete and am going for swimming regularly. For to be sure normally I am looking into the site of

WindGURU: Wettervorhersage f?r Windsurfing, Kitesurfing und andere Wind bezogene Sportarten

where you can see the conditions every day. Today the waves p.e. are little high for me - but I will try later to swim.

Not to sound ignorant, but anytime I've been to the Waterfront beach, the Calle Dr. Rosen side, I've never experienced an undertow. The water is always calm there. Well, except when there's heavy winds, but it seems pretty well protected.

You have seen the bad beaches by Dominican standards so far, You will love Sosua beach and Caberette beaches, Goto Sosua if you are looking to relax also have some shade if the sun is to much. Caberette is a nice beach which is not to much waves but sometimes windy and choppy waves. If you want to travel and see some really nice beaches listen to 2 of the previous posters and try Punta Rucia playa encenada and Playa Grande o Playa Caleton out near rio Sanjuan if you want picturesque beautiful beaches not overrun with tourists.

Also for calm beaches, Playa Diamonte, or Playa Entrada, both on the east side of Cabrera, or Playa Magenta in Yagua, before Rio San Juan.

In La Yagua the beach is named Playa Magante, look for the Los Gringos sign for the turn in.
