Hi, just wondering if anyone can recommend good places for dancing salsa/merengue/bachata in/around New York City on weekends (especially Fridays)...The main issues would be the patrons (must be decent people for the most part), the dance floor (reasonably large for the typical attendance, that is, not too crowded) and the physical location (decent neighbourhood, with good public transport options). I imagine there are many possibilities by Washington Heights and the Bronx, but of course not all may be suitable given above issues. Thanks.

This link should give you the best Salsa and Bachata clubs in NY. you can even print free passes.

I recommend the Copacabana or Latin Quarters.

See you on the dance floor.

I dont think Copacabana exists anymore. Latin Quarters is ok but over-rated, if u wanna REALLY get down try Dyckman-200th streets in uptown manhatten the whole strip on Dyckman is filled with Clubs abd bars, and all the way at the end towards the water u have La Marina, probably the best dance/bar/nightlife around on a Sunday but it closes around 1am. Theres a heavy spanish population there and the music is good

Copacabana is alive and kicking. It is located in the old China Club. Has all the nights the old Copa use to have. Tuesday after work is the best with free dance classes and buffet. A band usually performs. Of course, it is not the original shown in Good Fellas but something is something. A good time every time. ;)

come to Queens and you will find a little gem called Gran Rancho Jubilee...it is a Dominican restaurant by LaGuardia Airport by day...at night its a great spot to dance bachata, merengue, salsa, regaeton, dembow. ALL the big artists have performed there.. Antony Santos, Zacarias, Omega, El Secreto, etc

I forgot to post that I actually did go to Copa. It was fine. What I found was very little salsa, merengue and bachata music...It was almost exclusively Regueton...in fact, ZERO salsa, ZERO bachata, and maybe a bit of merengue (mostly "merenton", that is, merengue/regueton cross).
Which brings me all the way to my initial question:
Are there reputable venues to dance SALSA/MERENGUE/BACHATA in NYC, on weekends?

P.S. I also checked out Sofrito...it is mostly a restaurant...I ate there and found their Puerto Rican food quite delicious and reasonably priced. Of course it is very similar to Dominican food.

On weekends, your best bet would be Latin Quarters. I downstairs is the Spanish floor.

As I mentioned before, The Copa is not what is was. As a matter of fact, the young ones have taken over all the clubs and Salsa is not what it was. Sorry!!!!
