Can someone out there give me the low down on Ocean Dream Resort. I seen there website and it looks like a really nice place. Is it close to downtown Caberete? I am wondering if it is worth spending $ 170 more dollars over Las Canas.

vhauger,
Ocean Dream is about as good as it gets in Cabarete in terms of build, quality, security and comfort. It's 2 years old. There are others on similar level now, but not sure any have any real advantages over OD.

Location: If you're familiar with Cabarete bay, OD is next to Marabu Restaurant (big white 'tent' in center of the bay). You're about an 8 minute walk by road or along the bay to the restaurants in town. Pretty safe day or night. Motoconchos available at entrance if you don't want to walk.

For restaurants essentially 'on-site', there's Marabu (excellent) next door on the beach, La Campagna (sandwiches) in the OD plaza, Bliss (excellent) across the street 100 feet down the road into Callejon, Locos d'Enfrente for steak/chops/chicken (next to Bliss), Plaza Lunatic pizza (across from Locos d'Enfrente), Tropicoco is next door to the west, and there's a little place directly across the street from OD with grilled chicken/rice/beans for about 80 pesos.

Be aware the units are individually owned and rented out at different rates and through different agents. Ocean Dream | Harmony - Luxury condos for rent in the center of Cabarete, Dominican Republic - better than a villa! or searching ..VRBO? is Vacation Rentals by Owner? Vacation Homes Rentals by Owner for other units are two ways to find an apt in OD.

You asked regarding location...
OD is the red block on the left in the center of the photo (not extreme left red block!).
The 'center' of Cabarete is half way between the red & blue block(extreme right of photo).

disclaimer: i've rented in OD, i am not an owner nor do i benefit through any rentals!

I'd say 'not extremely'. It's pretty family oriented, which I guess makes sense when most units are 2 or 3 bedrooms. And I never saw anyone that appeared to be a 'working' girl inside the complex.
But I don't know that they'd stop you from bringing someone in. Visitors are required to leave their cedula at the gate, retrieving it when they leave.

Ocean Dream guest friendly? NO

I would say that "guest friendly" does not describe Ocean Dream at all--it is the best place in town, many would argue, and to bring working girls in there would almost certainly result in your being asked to leave.

"Guests" can mean many things I know, but coming in there with someone on your arm whom you have known for 20 minutes and expect to know for only a few more hours is not in keeping with the level of ambience or clientele at Ocean Dream.

I would not suggest it--at all.
