Going to be at Barcelo Decameron Beach Resort and Casino at the end of January for a week. Although it is all-inclusive was wondering if there are any good restaurants in the vicinity. Not looking for anything fancy - just something with good food and casual atmosphere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I will be in Juan Dolio at the end of January(28th to Feb 4) myself, staying at sister resort Barcelo Capella Beach, lots of little snack restaurants and open air bars just down the street across road from Capella Beach and the Occidental. I can'y remeber the names but worth the walk to have a sandwich and a Presidente, also lots of nice little shops for souvenirs and cigars.

Do not miss the Italian Resturant across the street from Playa Real Resort.( sorry...I know the name of it but can not spell it) This is a great place for outside dining. If you get hungry for a real beef hamburg this is the place to go. I recommend the Lasagna also. On Monday nights they usually have a band outside. This is a good place to meet several Jaun Dolio residents and learn a bit more about the town. Actually, all along that street there is many good little resturants to visit. It will give you an opportunity to meet Dominicans as well as other tourists and learn about other resorts for future vacations. Have fun!

Bill...directly across the road from the Metro Beach Hotel is a small restaurant called El Paella...give it a try for fresh pasta and all manner of seafood. Prices are reasonable and the drinks cold and generous. The chef makes a fantastic garlic spread for the bread and if pressured will give you his receipe.About a half-mile to the north on the same side of the road is a French restaurant under the palms (sorry, the name escapes me) but it's also reasonable and has a great menu. These are small and you'll want to give them some lee-way on service if dining with a large group, but well worth the wait!
