Do Dominican pharmacies sell over-the-counter medications that would require a prescription in the US or Europe, like amoxicillin, other antibiotics, tamiflu, ivermectin, etc. (or their generic equivalents)?

Yes. Colmado Ramón sells antibiotics including advice on how to use them. Not longer than one or two days. Good for gripe and headaches.
Expiration date es caballá.

I've never run across a pharmacy that doesn't check dates before they sell. But, TBH, I only deal with chain pharmacies.

Here you get anything at any amount. Antibiotics, steroids in any form or shade etc etc. Only Morphium or related Meds are highly restricted and not available without a prescription.

That isn't really true. I take a medication (not a narcotic) that I must get sent to me. For some reason, after visiting several large pharmacies in Puerto Plata, it was determined that it is not available in the DR.

Remember to ask the price first, and after they tell you, say "Y mi descuento?"

If you pay cash, they usually give a 10% discount.

Many will tell you the price, then say "And with the discount, it's XXX amount. (10% less)

If you're paying with a card, it drops to 5%.

I found the same thing. One of my meds isn’t available in DR (high dose potassium citrate to prevent kidney stones). One sister-in-law is a pharmacist and she checked everywhere, she said she’d have to order it from Spain (I asked in advance, so I brought enough with me).

Would a pharmacy at the Punta Cana Airport be a good place to buy them? I don't care if it costs a little bit more.

There is no pharmacy at the PC airport. A short taxi ride will get you one though.............

Personally, I would only buy antibiotics or any other medications at a reputable pharmacy. There are a lot of fakes here. Also, not all antibiotics are the same. Some are best for one type of infection while others are better for another type of infection. Antibiotics are completely worthless for flues and colds since they are viral infections.

For the drugs/medication available in the DR, I have unfortunately found out the same. Even some narcotics (strong antidepressants) are readily available, no questions nor prescription asked. How I know this? Because unfortunately, I have personally been sent to purchase drugs with more than 6000 pesos (3 months dosis, I was given the money, did not purchase that with our money...) for a distant relative many years ago. The drugs were obviously prescribed once, but the medication was continued without a new prescription (they knew what they were doing due to past experience, no worries here). I simply walked in to a chain pharmacy in POP, told what I want and got it. No questions asked. These were drugs with which it would be very easy to put someone to permanent sleep. When I realized how easy getting the drug was, I did get a bit concerned and surprised as well. I knew you can get pain killers from the colmado etc, but this did surprise me...

For antibiotics, the same thing, BUT as said, I would only visit big chain pharmacies and only buy if I or someone else knows what they are doing.

My mother-in-law has a permanent stock of this. It has helped on a few occasions, but thankfully my wife hates all pills, so I don't have to be worried of any of us getting immune to antibiotics...
It's not that you become immune to antibiotics, but rather the fact that overuse of antibiotics is making bacteria immune(resistant) to the antibiotics.

I don't know of any narcotic drug the is legally sold in the DR(?). Some places will sell codeine based meds illegally w/o a prescription though. Antidepressants are not narcotics(?).
