Hi Will:
Where did you see the bad reports, I'd like to read them. We leave on the 17th of Feb for Paradise. Actually, I was posting with a person named Deb here, she just got back and personally e-mailed me and said it was great, that she liked the resort, it was clean, the food was good, the restaurants were good, the staff friendly, etc. Please let me know when you get back how you liked it. When do you get back?? You could post to Deb and ask her about it also.

I got back from Paradise last weekend. I saw some of the negative reviews before leaving also and I was just as worried about my vacation.

This was my third vacation to the Playa Dorada area and it was also my best. Paradise is a really nice resort. The staff are very friendly, prompt, and accommodating. The only trouble we had was when we requested a second key for our room...it took a couple of days, but it was because the guy that cuts the keys was ill for those days.

The food was really good (and I'm a very picky eater). In September, I stayed at Playa Naco and lost 10 pounds because the food was so bad.

Did you book a junior suite or a regular hotel room? The regular rooms are horrible, but the suite is very nice.

I hope this helps to ease your mind some. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time at Paradise. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

We booked a regular hotel room, maybe when we see it we might want to upgrade, it's only the two of us.
I did have a couple of questions though, room safes how much did it cost for the key, and you say staff are very friendly, prompt, and accommodating, after what I read does that include the restaurants.
Finally, I think, what is in walking distance of the resort.ie shopping, flea markets, the brochure doesn't really say much

Saw the bad reviews..suggest sending e-mail

directly to the resort voicing our concerns. There is a link there to their web site. I did send a message, and I was very nice about it. I suggested they take a look at the bad reviews and take steps to ensure that their guests are getting the service and hospitality expected. I would be hesitant to book there after reading those reviews. I booked with Paradise because I took a look at it the last time we were there and liked what I saw, and, I had read some good reviews from last year. Let's hope they were just going through a bad couple of weeks, when the people from Debbie's page wrote their reviews!!
Please do send a message, it probably can't hurt! Bon voyage, hope you have a great time!! At least Deb had some positive things to say!!

I would suggest you upgrade to a suite...the regular room is small and you have to climb a spiral staircase to enter the room. I think it's an extra $100 for the week to upgrade and IMHO it's worth every cent. Try to upgrade before you go, we met people that paid the resort $30US extra per night for the upgrade.

The room safe is $20 (I think!), but we paid $14 as we had to wait 2 days for a new safe to be installed. They're upgrading the safes in all of the rooms, I had no complaints as it was reassuring to know that the key for the safe was unique and not a key that would work in any safe in any room (which I've seen happen in other resorts).

All of the staff were wonderful...from the front desk clerks to the activities staff to the bartenders and servers. But I'm a very friendly person...I speak to everyone regardless of whether they are a resort worker or a fellow tourist. So maybe that's why I got really good service. I'm also the type of person that relaxes while on vacation...I don't expect to have everyone stop what they're doing to find me a fork, if I need a fork I'm quite capable of finding one. I think if you go in with a relaxed attitude you won't have any problems. We had a guy named Modesto serve us at the buffet most nights. He filled our water and wine glasses and after dinner he served us drinks to our table until 10:30. At the a la carte restaurants, we received excellent service as well.

Paradise is a 2 minute walk to the Plaza. And about a 5 to 10 minute walk up the beach is a "market" with about 20 shops. You can find masks, paintings, jewellry, t-shirts, sarongs, rum, vanilla, etc. in these shops. There is also a boutique in the lobby of the resort.

If you have any other questions, let me know.
