We were in Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada in March of 99 and stayed at the Playa Naco, which we were very happy with and may go back there again in Feb or March, or maybe to the Paradise. Can anyone give me a review of the Paradise? My friends prefer hotels that have a casino on site, and also, does anyone know if they serve Rye/whiskey there? Not bourbon, or scotch, but Rye!! Thanks!!

There are many reviews of the Paradise Beach Resort on the DR1 resort database. Also, check Debbie's travel site (link below).

I can't answer your question about the liquor, but I can tell you that we have been there many times and have always had a wonderful vacation.

You might want to check into the casino a bit more. It was closed for renovation when we were there in July of this year.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Thanks Grace, what about the disco?

Might be taking 2 19 yr old girls for a week!! Also, is this the hotel that has a dining room under a thatched roof practically right on the beach, in front of the pool? What are the buildings like, ie are there a number of 3 or 4 storey buildings that have 12 rooms or so in them, or is it a "main hotel" style? Can you suggest a room location that is fairly central, maybe closer to the beach, and not too noisy? At this hotel, do you book daily for a dinner time (ie 6:00 or 8:00), or do you keep the same time all week? What did you think of the entertainment? Any other pros or cons? Many thanks!!

My husband and I were at the amsha paradise beach resort and casino 6 years ago. We are returning november 25 for two weeks. We found everything to be excellent, food, service, entertainment. The only thing we didn't like was that the standard room has two twin beds. A little uncomfortable when you put them together. I can't say enough about this place I have checked all over the net before I booked my trip and I have found fabulous reviews. The casino was just about to open when we were there but we left first so I will be excited to try it. The hotel I should say is spotless. I forgot our camera at the snack bar on the beach one night around midnight. We went to lost and found thinking it would not be there it was. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Re: Thanks Grace, what about the disco?

I hear that the disco is considered to be excellent. The hotel has two dining areas practically on the beach, but they are offset from the pool. The main restaurant is a buffet which does not require reservations. There are two speciality restaurants which must be reserved in the morning for the same evening. Times can vary. The entertainment is very good.

As to a room; there are different buildings all four stories high. It would be wise to upgrade to a superior room. The standard is on the fourth floor, has two twin beds and is reached by a spiral staircase. Building seven is set back on the beach and is quiet, but not far from the restaurants, beach and pool. The best superior rooms are the corner ones on the third floor, but they lack balconies. They are very generously sized, however, and have a small sitting area.

The corner superior rooms on the third floor have adjoining access to a standard - perhaps for the nineteen year olds?

Disco at Paradise Resort

Karina, the disco located at Paradise is called Crazy Moon and it's a fairly nice disco. Caters to the tourists so they will play a lot of the club music the 19 yr olds are familiar with. The other disco which is more popular, is Andromeda disco located at Heavens. No cover charge for guests at the resorts at either of these discos.

Can anyone suggest a specific room here?

We will probably get a Jr. suite. Can you describe it for me? Can you suggest a room or building number that is in a great location?? Something central maybe, or closer to the beach?? Any other info ??? Thanks!

Re: Can anyone suggest a specific room here?

The junior suites are two rooms. There is a living area/kitchenette with a dinette table and chairs, sofa, loveseat and lamp tables. The kitchenette has a sink, mini-refrigerator and cupboards. The bedroom has a double bed or two singles with an ensuite bath. There is a small balcony off the living room. Extra bedding can be set up in either room if needed. If storage/drawer space is an issue, be sure to check. Not all the suites have free standing dressers.

Buildings 7, 9, 14 and 16 are oceanview. Buildings 14 and 16 are beachfront, but the first floor rooms face a walkway between the buildings and the beach (a fair amount of foot traffic). I would try for building 7,9 or 16. Much of the foot traffic is outside building 14. There are no elevators, so if mobility is an issue, be sure to request a first floor room. Otherwise, you might find yourself in a third floor junior suite.
