Paragliding

Hello,

I'm visiting Sosua in December. Has onyone an advice or even experience with Paragliding in or near Sosua/Cabarete/Puerto Plata or know an area for Paragliding in the DR? Any info would be appreciated.

Please explain the difference between paragliding and parasailing.

I try to explain but it would be difficult about my bad English:

parasailing: you wear a parachute and you are connectet with a motorboat which pull you up

paragliding: it is similar than hanggliding; you have to use an rectangle parachute and start on a mountain and from there you sail down or you soar in the wind near the mountain

Karl means gliding, Dolores, you start from a high mountain and I'm wondering if you can do this in the DR., and I mean doing with permission! Most of the time you need a landing permission.

Yes, paragliding is possible in the mountains around Jarabacoa. About 2,5 hours drive from the North coast. Get in touch with Rancho Baiguate (link below). Speak to Enrique and ask him what's possible when you're there. It's on their program and I know they sometimes take people out. Tandem flights are definitely a possibility. I don't know if you can go alone. But talk to the people at the ranch - they know. Have fun.

There are no mountains or valleys in the Sosua area that would provide suitable Paragliding. Perhaps you meant parasailing?
