Just wondering how long it takes to get your tourist card once landed at POP, before being whisked off too your hotel haha.
When i came back in 2000 it took us well over an hour to get through due to everyone wanting to do it, at the same time. I also remember having my photo taken on the way through also and being able to buy it once you are ready for departure after your holiday.

If anybody as any useful information on the situation I would be grateful to here. Just wanting to get plenty off rough idea's and cant wait till i get there on the 12th April.

Cheers
Gav

A lot of the airlines from Canada actually give it to you on the plane so you don't have to wait. I have never waited more than 5 minutes if I have had to buy one

Even the departure tax was included!

Just got back from POP on Feb. 19th.
Skyservice air only from Montreal, tourist cards were given out during the flight and thje departure tax was prepaid.

Is it better to get my Tourist Card before I leave the UK?
This is optional. However, people who are visiting for a second time prefer to get it in advance to save time at the airport. There is often a queue for purchasing the cards, which then have to be handed (after another queue) to the Immigration Officer. If you do decide to purchase it upon arrival, we recommend you take exact change (US$10).

HAHA Am flying from England lets hope they do the same on the Thomas Cook flights.

I flew back from England in October with Thomas Cook airlines and they didn't offer an on board service then. I have DR residencia so not relevant to me but our young stepson needed to purchase the required tourist card and it probably took all of 2 minutes as the queue was short on that occasion - just make sure you have your $10 in the correct currency.

Gav,
From the UK - it takes a looooong time and the queue is even longer. You are far better off getting the tourist card from the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in London before you leave. Details are on their website. You send a photocopy of the page in your passport with your photo, a postal order for ?10 (they dont accept anything else) and a stamped, addressed envelope. It is back within two days and you beat the horrendous queues.
It costs more this way, but is well worth it!

I have flown into POP at least a dozen times and only once or twice have waited more than 10 minutes or so to get my tourist card. Usually much less. The queue for Immigration is the much longer wait, and there is no avoiding that no matter where/when you get your tourist card.

It also depends on how many flights have landed at that time!

Personally have never waited more than 5 minutes thankfully;)

As usual, I will keep my mouth shut. I will be interested to hear how long it takes you Gav, when you arrive.

never waited more than 5 minutes except for when some dumb tourists never have 10 bucks or AA gives us the wrong form to fill out on the plane. :ermm:

That's exactly the correct info.
If your plane lands behind 4 huge jets, you're gonna be in line for awhile.
If it's not busy, you'll fly through there in minutes.

Ive been in that situation once and learned to buy my tourist card before boarding the plane. The extra $1 they charge is well worth it knowing I wont be stuck in that line ever again!
