Wouldn't worry too much about this

He'll have several other options as a starter. NY being one of them. Steinbrenner already has his people looking at ways of making it happen, along wth Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, and/or Eric Milton.

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein has told friends that if Pedro Martinez pushes too hard for a four-year deal, he'll look elsewhere and, in his words, "I'll just find two pitchers who at least show up on time."

This dude didn't waste any time. Some way to treat your ace of the past few years, and someone who delivered in crunch-time for you this year.

If Boston continues to push Pedro out the door and show him disrespect, he'll probably sign with NY just out of spite, and probably for less. :speechles.

NY will welcome him with open arms, plus with the large concentrations of Dominicans in NYC, he'll be welcomed as a prodigal son. We didn't even like Clemens, but on the field, you rather have him on your team, that against it. Same thing with Pedro.

good chance pedro will sign with giants

1) he owes felipe alou his career. if it weren't for felipe, pedro would have
still been a short relief guy. felipe turned him into a starter here in
montreal. remember, lasorda said pedro was too slight to throw +100
pitches. felipe proved them all wrong.

2) pedro is better suited to national league now that he doesn't have
same stuff as late '90's. i don't see an american league gm signing
him.

3) good chance too that omar minaya might sign him with the mets.

Pedro no doubt is an ace but like many people have said It's not the same Pedro. At this time in his career i also believe it's better for him to go to the NL but there is something that we need to understand because you are a star doesnt give you the right to do what you like when you have other 24 guys depending on each other including pedro. To say what the GM said may be disrispectful in some peolples eyes but what do you call being late for game and start a fit when they tell you something about it only because you are "Pedro". Then he should only show up when he is going to pitch if he is not part of the team. He should go 1 every 5 days.

Is like the same thing Sammy did in Chicago, the fact that you are a star doesnt mean you are above the other guys. And everybody should follow the rules. To show up late is disrispectful but to say that you will replace him with 2 guys that will show up on time is just the plain truth. Some teams will rather have discipline that Controversy. If by any chance you follow Dominican Baseball (Winter League) look at what is happening to the ESCOGIDO LIONS, they havent won like in 13 years because they have a bunch of big league stars that show up in dic and take all of the good kids off the field just to play drunk and to be fooling around.

I believe that Boston should sign him back but if he will be giving discipline problems (specially after being secured for the next 3 years) then they will be better off with another pitcher, there are other good staters in the market this year and remember that the Free Agency hasnt being that good in the past year or two or at least what it used to be, anytime you earn in the millions the market is good.

Parade in the DR?

The Sox are talking about it as if it's in the works.

They plan to take the trophy all over Red Sox Nation - that would be from Coast to Coast, and down to the DR.

Tone - I now know exactly what papers you read. That's all crap.

It seems that George is the only one that is considering him. The other MFY's know him well enough - those pretty boys wouldn't want him in their organization, especially with that hair.

I don't think the Yanks will sign Pedro. I think he will sign with Boston.

Red Sox Parade

just watching it on the local boston station via satellite dish. lots of dominican flags and lots of bosiminicans. pedro has made a full length coat out of the dominican flag. looks like a fun time. pedro is finished in boston. he will go to the mets where he can still be loathed by yankee fans and he will be a big draw for the huge dominican population in nyc area.

Why would he go to the Mets? Their organization is in turmoil. Why would he leave all his friends and a chamiponship team to go pitch for the Mets? Pedro never would do that....he loves attention ...loves the cameras. He wont get enough attention playing for the Mets. They are the bottom of the barrel nowadays.

Got that off of SI.com, not any papers.

You know I'm not a Pedro fan. But when Steinbrenner gets these hair-brained schemes in his mind, there's nothing Cashman, Torre, and the rest can do but deal with it.

Boston would be stupid to get rid of him. His better days are behind him, but you still KNOW what he brings to the mound under pressure. The same can't said of Radke, Milton, or Pavano.

The 2005 Yankee payroll will probably top $220 million next year, Pedro or not. And you know what? They'll still turn a profit, and allow EVERY team in the league to make money with them as well. And again, they'll still win the AL East and contend for the World Series again.

Jasper had some interesting ideas about Pedro. Definitely worth considering.

omar minaya. new gm of the mets. born in moca. raised in nyc. if he sees value in pedro, he will sign him as the mets need pitching depth so long as the price is right. remember the mets are a well-to-do team with the resources to take a chance on a 3-year contract with pedro. i guarantee you that they will at least talk - that is pedro's agent and omar.

I am not saying the Mets wouldn't want Pedro. I am saying that Pedro wouldn't want the Mets. He will sign with Boston before the Mets. Most organizations will shy away from Pedro because they feel he is an uncontrollable personality and his best years are behind him. I am not saying he can't go somewhere and win 15 games....I think he probably would but for the numbers he is demanding, only the Mets, Yankees and Boston would be willing to pay those figures. I think he signs with Boston.

On the other hand, I think Derek Lowe would be a very nice pick up for any team.

from what i understand, pedro and omar have met many times at various functions (baseball and dominican related) and they get along exceedingly well. i give it very good odds.

Too cold in S.F.

..for Pedro. Sounds nice going back with Felipe, but I'd be very very surprised.

Anaheim is a possibility, Boston is more likely.

I don't believe the quote from "friends" of Theo. No way he would say something like that, he never will be quoted affecting the market. No way.

I don't see the Mets thing at all, wouldn't make sense from either direction. If they kept the kid Kaz that went to T.B., they'd have a much healthier and better long term option. Their "go for broke" approach didn't work and isn't how Minaya tends to work, not his "pedigree" ?as Golo is so fond of saying.

Lowe will be a quick sign with whomever wants to spend. He should strike now while his value is up. You'll see once he loses Varitek as his catcher (same since their first days in baseball) he will be ordinary at best. You can write that in stone.
