Hi Everybody,

This will be my first time flying to Santo Domingo. I plan on leaving

around august 4th and returning on the 25th. I asked a travel agent

about prices and was quoted a price of $672 per person on delta airlines

from Philadelphia to Santo Domingo. Is this a normal price or could I find

something a little cheaper? My lady friend and I are traveling from China

to Philadelphia first at a cost of $1100 per ticket. So I am a little bit

concerned about the price of our plane fair to Santo Domingo. Can any

body put us onto a better deal?

Thanks,

Steve and Helen

You should consider driving to New York's JFK airport (about 2 1/2 hours) where there appears to be a fire sale on tickets to Santo Domingo (the Delta ticket would have taken you through JFK anyway).

Fire Sale on Tickets

Thank you for your information but I do not understand what

you mean by the term "Fire Sale on Tickets".

Why Not Fly Non-Stop?

Note that for the $673 cost more or less, you can fly non-stop on US Air from Philadelphia to SDQ so taking Delta and connecting at the same price seems foolish. No doubt the travel agent commission from Delta is MORE than US Air. You can fly on American Airlines , not non-stop for about $90 less than $672 by connecting in San Juan. So if you want to pay $672 fly US Air non-stop. If you want to pay less fly AA via SJU.

Note if you go to Delta's site they don't show any flights thorugh Atlanta so they are all flights to Cincinnatti then to Newark or LaGuardia then on from JFK, the most horrible routes I can imagine.

And find a better travel agent.

You can check any of the Travel search engines such as Orbitz.com or Travelocity.com

Doing a quick search, the cheapest flights on those days from PHL with a connection would be about $537.

The cheapest flights from JFK are $331 nonstop for the exact dates you posted.

Much closer to PHL than JFK is Newark, they have rates for $322 with connections.

Steve,

You are obviously computer-literate, or you wouldn't be posting here. I usually go to www.travelocity.com or www.expedia.com to look for tickets. Then I compare the lowest price I find on those sites to Jetblue's fares, which can only be found on JetBlue's website at www.jetblue.com.

Just enter JFK (or EWR) as your departure airport, and SDQ as your arrival airport.

Continental flies non stop daily to SDQ from EWR, so connecting would be an additional hassle not worth the effort. And right now quite good deals.

All you helpful people thank you for your time!

I really can not change my travel dates so I will use the travel web sites

Yes of course Continental flies nonstop, however the rates for the time Steve requested were $700+ dollars, while they were $322 on AA with a connection in San Juan. Don't know about you, but for about $400, I'd make a connection if need be.
The quite good deals you cite are of course for September, but Steven needs August 4-25.

I said from the get go to fly on AA and connect once in SJU and save $90 since Delta takes the poor guy to hell and gone to get to SDQ, sicne even Delta's site show NO ATL- SDQ flights at all, so they hop all over the place. If he winds up in EWR vs. PHL, I'd stil fly non-stop than connect , otherwise my original post of PHL to SDQ via SJU makes sense. One thing is clear his travel agent is a crock. Expedia or Travelocity with a rstriction on no more than one stop will yield a decent price quite often.

I guess we are different travellers.

The PHL to SDQ flights on AA, are still over $600. The ride from PHL to EWR is only about 40 minutes or so, perhaps even less depending on the speed of the driver. For the money one saves, Steve can basically buy the tickets for both he and Helen.
That would be $644 for both pax from EWR, as opposed to $600+ per person from PHL.
