There was damage done to the Gran Jimenoa Hotel in Jarabacoa, with the bridge to the disco washed away and several walkways destroyed. I would hate to see what a real Hurricane would do. There was fairly severe damage to the road to manabao also both with washouts and slides, same with road to Constanza. I would not buy land with the potential for flooding as I lived through several devastating floods as a kid; it takes too long to pick up the pieces of your life, if you are lucky enough to still have it.

The first TS washed away the bridge to the dusco, and they were actively repairing it before Olga came through. I hear many pilings suffered damage to the restaurant, too. I'm told the Abreu's are working on the repairs and construction of the new lobby very hard.

Actually, hurricanes usually go by faster and dump less water on the land. The tropical storms took a while to go over and pass the island and just kept dumping water on us hour after hour... although of course, a hurricane causes more wind damage. Neither is good or wished for!

Just before Christmas the river in front of the Gran Jimineo was three times as wide as it was last Christmas. The bank of the river opposite the hotel are completelty eroded. The cows are still grazing on the opposite hillside. Every time we eat in the restaurant I expect to see one come rolling down the bank.

Hurricane Georges dumped 18 inches of rain in five hours in Jarabacoa, and the water damage was far more severe than Olga. Hurricane David flooded huge area of Santo Domingo, so as you say both are bad but I think the real Hurricane dumps more water, and of course more wind.
