I need to buy a stack of clothes to give the street kids over Xmas. I've bought new in the past but figure I can get much more if I find somewhere cheaper or even used. There seems to be much more kids on the streets this year than previously.
The other night I was helping a friend at 230am his car broke down. I witnessed a van pull up and the back doors open up and about three families of Haitians were just left on the street. I went over to make sure they were alright and they told me it was their first night in the city and knew nowhere or anyone. It's very cold at the moment, can't be good being on the streets with your kids this time of year.
Any ideas?

Pacas, perhaps?

Boston Imports, Call2 17, #23 Savica Las Alcarrizas 809 548 0029

Ropa Mayoreo Calle Desiderio Arias 50, 809 532 3174

I have no personal experience with either. Both are in Santo Domingo and sell used clothing in fairly large quantities, or so say their ads.

Go to the flea market on Sunday morning, on the malecon at Luperon. Piles and piles of cheap clothing.

Hey B,

Down on Carmen Mendoza usually on Saturday & Sundays they have like a flea market sale. I can't recall the name of the street, but go up to 27 and come back down since Carmen Mendoza is a one way, you will certainly see it! Its the street that has a Corner market store on it which there are 3...Its not Deoreos which will be the first Bodega on the right as you head down, its the next one only one street more, Chinese store there as well, make a right and its on the right. However, there are a lot of stores that recently opened on Carmen as well, take a look, the prices always seemed pretty cheap

There are dozens of paca stores in Santo Domingo around the intersection of Duarte and Paris.

this is the place to go - but you have to be prepared to bargin - it is Haitian market .. so be rock bottom in your price.. and be prepared to walk away. It is a completely different shopping experience than a paca store - that is if you do it the Haitian way ,. but it is an interesting outing, really. Bring small bills.
