So Im trying to explain the recent lunar eclipse to my dominican friend and her daughter. La luna and el sol were straight forward, but planet earth
was lacking in definition with la tierra or nuestro mundo. She said la bolita del mundo. Is there a spanish word for the planet earth?? Could someone list the names of the planets??

Thanks

Steve

You were right - 'Tierra' is the correct Spanish term for planet Earth. 'Bolita del mundo' is also used, although pretty colloquial.

The other planets are called: Neptuno, Urano, Saturno, Jupiter, Marte, Tierra, Venus and Mercurio.

You can't win, can you? I wonder what people would have said if I'd included "Plut?n". :)
