Hello All!

I have just returned from the North Coast and found it absolutely beautiful! I am working with Century 21 on purchasing a Condo in Cabarete. Either at Bluefish or Victorian! Opinions?

I noticed that nobody has Plasma TV's down there. I have supplied hundreds of units to Puerto Penasco Mexico and I am interested in doing the same in the North Coast. We have our own brand using Samsung panels. Why pay for the name when you can get the same product for half the price?

Can someone recommend me to an English speaking lawyer who can help me get all the paper work and that will know what the tariff and duty costs will be? I will have most of the products come from Miami.

Does anyone know a good customs broker/representative? Is there an office that has both?

I have heard it is easier to bring product in at Haina port in Santo Domingo rather than Puerto Plata. Is that true?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Heck I will even give discounts to all DR1 members if I get some good help! ;)

Thanks!

I'll help! Especially for a discount on a Plasma TV!!

I would suggest talking to Guido Perdomo, Juan's brother, next time you're at the Century 21 office. he's a really nice guy, has always been generous with his time in answering questions and giving advice...and he speaks perfect English. Import/Export is by no means his specialty, but he may be able to point you in the right direction...and... he went to Harvard ;)

Also...there are plenty of places that sell Plasmas...at least in SD and Santiago...but they are obviously very expensive...it seems they are exponentially more than the tube TVs compared with US prices. if you can provide a good product with a decent local warranty, you may have something...

As for Bluefish vs. Victorian, Im familiar with both of them...given they are very similarly physically, the call would be on location and size of the project...do you want to be closer to Sosua or Cabarete...close to the highway in a smaller complex, or more secluded in a large development? One suggestion though, in Bluefish, I wouldnt buy in the new phase...the units are much smaller and the same price (I think) as the larger units in the beachfront buildings...

BTW, did you see the double 1 BR oceanfront unit at bluefish (2br made from 2 1br's)...I like that one ALOT!!

I have looked into exporting plasmas and lcd to the north coast and found that there are to many things working against you.

First is there is not enough expat population with the cash to buy.Second is the salt air and unstable power plays havoc on plasmas not so much on lcd's.

Third is warranty problems their are not enough technicians who have the knowledge or proper tools to fix them.

Forth is theft
Fifth is duty and taxes this is the killer.

Even with a low cost lcd or plasma the cost of landing it will bring the cost to an area only few can afford.

Good luck with your endeavour and keep me posted. I would be interested to see if I was wrong in my assumption.

What is the brand name of your panel and what Samsung plant is is coming out of.
It may come out of their plant but it won't be the same technology as a Samsung branded panel.
I know they do sell older panels were the patents have run out but that stuff usually comes from china not Korea.
