I would like some information on the hotel Caribbean Village in Playa Grande. From what I understand it is an all inclusive hotel and has a very nice golf course. Also what is the beach like in Playa Grande?? I havent been there in a long time, but I do remember that the current is a little rough. Is that still true? How far is Playa Grande from Puerto Plata? Is there a casino in the hotel?

Thanks in advance

Joyce

Re: playa grande *PIC*

Joyce,

please check the DR1 resort database. There should be a review I wrote. It is not very new but there have not been many changes.

Playa Grande to the airport is about 50 miles, or 80 minutes, to downtown Puerto Plata about 20 minutes more.

There is no casino at the Caribbean Village, but one at the Bahia Principe west of Rio San Juan.

I don?t play golf but all people I talked to really like the golf course.

Check the link below for more photos (also in Special: Northcoast).

Bye

Ronald

The hotel has one of the most impressive golf courses in the Caribbean. It gets excellent reviews for its lovely scenery. It is also a challenging golf course. Playa Grande is a gorgeous beach to walk on. Very romantic. It is more than a little rough, though. I do not recommend a visit for families with small children. Note there are many other beaches in this area that are perfect for non top swimmers. Playa Grande is about an hour and a half drive from Puerto Plata. There is no casino in the hotel, but there is one in nearby Bahia Principe Hotel near Rio San Juan. The Pueblito Principe, a group of small businesses outside the Bahia Principe, is very attractive. The Playa Grande area is one of the loveliest on the North Coast. If you visit, have a guide take you to the different small beaches, and visit the Dud? water hole with its pristine spring waters.

Just arrived back from Playa Grande yesterday, The golf course is stunning and that is an overwhelming understatement! The resort itself is extremely clean and comfortable and the staff professional and industrious. The grounds are impeccable. The food and drink (all included) are plentiful and satifying. This is not a party place with non stop nightlife but the lively animation team provided activity during the day and entertained with a different show each night. Language was never a problem if you couldn't make yourself understood in Spanish (mines horrid) you could switch to English German or French and sometimes sherades works too. I only wish someone had told me how much we would enjoy it. We would have stayed for 2 weeks. I must however disagree with DR1 on one point. Although we didn't take our children lots of folks did. there is an active kids club with plenty of supervision. the staff seemed to go out of their way to cater to the kids playing with them and being silly with them. Obviously enjoying their company. The treck to the beach is lovely and each of the 87 stairs bring you closer to a clean well supervised uncrowded paradise. Enjoy e me if you need more info

There are small balconies with chairs on them. All meals are buffet. There are two restaurants (one Italian, one Brazilian) you may eat once at each for a one week stay. Yes they serve pina coladas. Green fees as bought from the hotel in package form work out to $70.00 US this includes cart but not the required caddy. You're welcome.
