I have stayed there several times over the years. I have never had a problem there and liked the rooms, services and staff.
It has been a while since I've been there. Since the first time many years ago they have continually added on and always made improvements. I also used to live in JD and used Plaza Real's facilities often.
If you have looked at their website you will know what they have to offer.
I would not book online unless you think it is a good deal. I have always gotten better prices in person. That is true of anything in Juan Dolio.
Too much time has passed since my last visit to tell you anything about the town or anything new near Plaza Real.
Hopefully some of the more recent JD residents can help you out.

this is all great info. is there much to do for a single guy in JD ? after several trips to BC, Sosua, SPDM, SD just want to know if there are any local hangouts ?
btw, this is NOT a chica question....

I think you will be bored to tears in Juan Dolio as a single guy...unless you are looking to be by yourself a lot...the times i have been there it has been a ghost town.....except for the weekends when people from the capital hit the beach. Good luck

i agree with JFitz. The times i have been it has been a ghost town. It's not a bad thing if you want peace and quiet. The golf course is nice if that interests you. The beach is pretty good there are bars and restaurants along the beach.

I forgot about Gulia's. It is definately THE place to go to get the scoop on what is going on in town. It is right next door to Plaza Real.
There is also a website called Juan Dolio Living. Google it listing bars, resturants and some places to rent.

Yes, They have a website. I remember google comes up with mostly booking sites for it. I found it by looking in the review section of DR1. Then search for Plaza Real Resort. There is a link for their website in the review. I took a peek at it. The pictures are old.
There is much more plant growth now, the buildings are older and it shows a picture of the beach. The resort is across the street from the beach. Certainly not a long walk.
