When we were in Jamaica a couple years back Pot was all over the place. Last year we went to Puerto Plata and did't see any. This year we are going to Boca Chica and was curious if its prevelent there. Not that we are looking but I have heard that the DR is one of the largest exporters of pot

And the DR is not, repeat NOT, a major por exporter. It is used for coke and H but not pot.

No illegal drugs of any kind are prevalant in Boca Chica. You will not see it around or discussed freely. There are a few street rats around that may offer whatever. In general, similar to the north coast, if you don't look for it, you won't see it.

Don't even think about it, not that it isn't there. But rest assured, it will be your worst nightmare, bar none if you should get caught.
Somebody is giving you bad info. they are not a large exporter of pot,maybe other things but definatly not the wicked weed.
Besides get high on the beautiful country and people and leave the crap at home.

My feelings exactly Tony,get high on the country and the people and leave the crap behind.I'm sure there are people that will sell you some but the same people would most likely sell you out as well.Doing time in a DR prison would be horrendous not to mention the expences for a good lawyer.Stick with Jamaica,but be aware it's also illegal there much too many travelers disbelief.

anyone, i'm travelling to san juan on 9th november, i've been told there is only 6 ?? hours of sunlite - is that true ? also, is the sea water as warm as eg barbados at that time of the year. ps where can i get some pot/weed

Here's one of the scams. Someone offers you dope "MJ or Coke" unless if give him a big NO will try again some other day or occasion. Buy some and as a rule you will be arrested within a short period of time. If you pay right away, you might get way with US$1,000.00 or so. If you get to jail, more expensive. (US$5,000.00) The higher it goes, the more expensive it gets. Up to several years in jail. (The jails in the DR are not the luxury resorts they have in Canada or USA) Unless you have a lot of cash, then you can even buy or rent your own "Luxury Room" TV, Video, Delivery Pizza, Girls etc." The bottom line, the dope probably goes back onto the street to catch the next sucker. STAY AWAY FROM IT

Let me set the record straight I'm not looking and have no desire for the stuff! We plan on getting high on the surroundings and what it has to offer. We were offended on how many times we were approached in Jamacia. In Mexico they try the same thing there and with the police being so corrupt they would love to bust a american. I'm very happy so hear that the locals refrain from it. The DR is a wounderful place and we enjoy comming down. Maybe someday try and move down. Thanks for all your concerns.

Larry, I have to agree with some of the posts. You was feelin' the waters, wasn't ya ? Well, feel no more.
I'll help ye out, kiddo.
Come on down to Amsterdam . we got all the pot you can smoke, medicinal or otherwise. Afghan, Moroccan, Sinsemilla, you name it. We serve it up at socalled Coffeeshops (look for Koffieshop) Afterwards you can relax even more in the world's most famous red light district.
As you get your kicks here, at least you'll be leaving (our) paradise island alone. And I can keep an eye on ya. Caught with just an ounce more than for personal use or go berserk on your stuff, your butt is mine.
On a more serious note : Santo Domingo is for fun, sun. If you can remember that and spend your money safely there, you're OK.
Trust me, you can enjoy the DR without the high. Take care.

BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot stress this enough. I live with the CDN Consul, and get to hear of his visits to the "lovely" jails here. This place is pretty serious about drug offences. Over a couple of grams (depending on the substance--less for more serious drugs), and you could be spending the next 5-20 years getting to know that big guy in your cell block (and you will have a choice of about 50 guys--in one of the nicer, smaller cells) really really well. Do not expect your government to be able to help you--if you are in the DR, the laws here apply to you. No prisoner exchange, no getting booted out of the country--just a long long long wait in a very unpleasant place.
