The law seeks to strengthen the positioning of the Dominican Republic as a connecting point for the transport and logistics of passengers and cargo.

The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Héctor Porcella, says the new law will revolutionize the country’s aeronautical sector by creating better conditions for investors in local aviation, resulting in a boost to tourism development. Also would love to see Pedernales and if Dajabon has an airport, that too.

I saw some large signs advertising an international airport to be built in Pedernales on my last trip there. There may have been a thread about it a while back. There's an "international" airport in Barahona, but no international flights. According to the Aerodom website, there are not many flights at all.

Technical proposals for an airport in Pedernales are due on October 20th.

Bids on those proposals are due November 9th.

A contract to build will likely be awarded by year end.

I spoke to a local who said they would be starting construction by year end. Given your timeline, that's not happening.

PC, what would be your best guess for when operational assuming contract award before 1/1/24?
Good news and bad news on that front.

The bad news is that it will take 3-5 years...........and probably closer to 5 for the airport to be completed..

The good news is that it gives the government time to start to get and upgrade highway infrastructure.

Kudos to the government in doing it in the right stages.

Port first with a couple of hotels, airport second and hopefully somewhere in between..........highway access.

Well if he meant by starting construction the obligatory photo op of the dignitaries with a hard hat and shovel..........that could be possible. As to real work.........lots of planning and moving of equipment needs to take place first.
