Has anybody else noticed the shortage of Presidente beer in bottles as of late, but yet, much more availability of the canned beverage?
2020 madness?
Green friendly?
Does it matter?

I'm probably in the minority, but I,ve always preferred cans. They get colder quicker(beer in Janet's is frequently warm) and weigh less.

Cheaper, easier storage/volume, handle, transport, stock refresh, capacity in coolers, 100% easier to recycle, no breakages to pick, etc...

The company is looking to replace the bottles sold to the general public for canned products. Leaving the bottles for the in-house consumption biz.

This will create and solidify the resell market and the household consumer separation 100%.

It seems like an all around win-win bold response to this year's economic damages, and related fallout.
Was there an official corporation release regarding this position, or is it solely speculation?
Not being snarky, but I was out of the country and may have missed the statement release.

Cans have been around for a few years now. What is relatively new are the 8 oz cans.

Cans in general are easier to recycle than any other container type, aluminum in general is easier to recycle, so it is a step in the right direction for the environment.

Glass is infinitely recyclable and, less important for Presidente beer, better maintains the quality of premium beverages like bottle conditioned ales and fine wines. The ecological advantage is important. Taste is not really a factor when a beverage is served nearly frozen it tastes like ice. Wine coolers did not survive the 80s for these reasons. Presidente will of course continue to thrive however it is packaged locally because ot is considered the best beer in the world by locals who have sampled few others.

Not to be a wise guy,, but I almost want to laugh..
Presidente is possibly one of the WORST beers .. unless its Frosty Cold, its almost not drinkable ... .to compare it to fine wine , is rather amusing ..

Second .. the way the DR " Recycles" bottles ( see below) .. I would prefer ONE use Alum, and then recycle the Alum Metal .
Those bottles are sometimes used for GASOLINA, and then put back into circulation.
Other even more disgusting things have been found INSIDE " recycled " bottles
Not my idea of Recycling , I dont care what Temperatures they STEAM those bottles at ..its still disgusting to even think about ..
That said , I love a good beer in a Glass Bottle .
but, Presidente ... is the bottom of the Totem pole in terms of Beer .. an Aluminum Can hardly hurts the Taste or effects their Image .. and less Broken Glass on the Beach is always a good thing.
In fact take the Concept to its Extreme... Come out with one of those FOSTER Size Oil Can Presidentes and make the price Reasonable , as the lighter weight would be easier to transport & store etc ... that size would sell like Hotcakes ...

Alert! Because of the curfews most places restaurants and colmados turn off the refrigerators at night. Therefore the beer is chilling and heating up every day. Maybe thats the funk you are tasting.

We are in agreement about how Presidente ranks among other beers. I should point out the difference between recycled glass and reused bottles. Recycling glass involves melting it at temperatures well beyond the level any latent substances or contaminants could remain. Reused bottles are safe if they are properly sanitized. I agree that can be a big "if". Single use in the Dominican Republic generally means something is destined for a landfill.
