I was reading the thread about vaina.
The word is used for everything now, and getting more popular by the day, and thus it is confusing me.
On the other hand.. if I don't know the spanish word for something...
IT'S A VAINA !!!

Butttt :p

WHAT ABOUT PRIMA AND PRIMO.
If I understand right it is used for:
The first father off a child.
The first child of a woman.
Your oldest brother or sister.

Don't know if I'm correct but do Dominicans use it for their first everything?
Like for example, if you ask for directions and they say "arriba", and you're on your way??

Please enlighten me!

Yours truly

Primo/prima means cousin.

Also, "vaina" is used a lot of times as a substitute for correct Spanish and therefore you should limit it's usage to only close friends and family. If you use it in a public setting people will laugh at you.

It can be used also as a term of endearment as "Como esta primo?"

sobrino/sobrina mean nephew/niece

Ok now I'm really confused.
English is not my first language, but I thought I knew cousin was the same as nephew.
Dictionary time for me I suppose.

Or plaese enlighten me.
What's the difference between a newphew and a cousin ??

JAJAJJAJAJJAJA :)

What is your native language Cameron ?

Ok,let's say you have a brother Cameron. His son/daughter would be your sobrino/sobrina
Now if your dad has a brother (i.e your uncle=tio), his children would be your cousin (your primo/prima).

He said English was not his first language.
A cousin is the son or daughter of your mother's or father's brother or sister - primo/a in Spanish
Nephew/niece is the child of one of your brothers or sisters - sobrino/a in Spanish

sinverguenza - literally 'without shame' - a shameless person

It's kind of early to hit the sack isn't it. Unless... the OP is really in the Canary Islands and hasn't realized it yet... :)
