My family and I are planning to spend a week or so in the DR soon and find the Pureto Plata Beach Resort and Casino to have some good prices. Is it a part of the Playa Dorado Resort? Should I be looking for any shortcomings in the place. Any input would be appreciated.

Not part of Playa Dorado, but a short taxi ride away. This is a good family resort with it's own casino and a small disco. It has its own beach and a really big pool. The shows are very good at night and the staff are the best. I shave stayed there twice. Every time I go to the DR, I go back there to visit the friends that I made 3 and 4 years ago. They have a loyal staff. Say hi ti FELIX in animation.

Re: An alternative to Puerto Plata Beach Resort and Casino

Hi John, if you're planning a family vacation to the Puerto Plata Area I would suggest staying inside the Playa Dorada complex. It's a great, beautiful, quiet, safe area with many quality reasonably priced all-inclusive hotels. The beach is top notch, there's a fair size shopping complex with "american style" food available (great for kids), casinos, golf course, banks,.....anything you might want, it's all there. Plus, it's only minutes by taxi from downtown puerto plata, and not much further to sosua. Personally, I think it's one of the nicest resort areas around. My wife and I have been to many sun destinations, and we recommend playa dorada over many other, more expensive, areas. Try Playa Naco.....it's seems to be one of the more popular hotels. It's extremely reasonably priced and the services are great! Good luck, and happy holidays. P.S. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Puerto Plata Beach Resort & Casino......I'm simply partial to playa dorada!

Re: An alternative to Puerto Plata Beach Resort and Casino

I agree the resorts within the Playa Dorada complex offer so much more things to do than at the Puerto Plata Beach resort and casino (although very nice as well, just not as much to do). I recently came back from Playa Naco and have stayed at Villas Dorada and Paradise (all great resorts)....
