Hey all, on thursday 22nd June i will be arriving in punta cana airport at 2.30pm, i want to catch the expresso from bavaro to Santo Domingo at 4pm, i reckon that we should have our bags, visas atc by 3pm. Is this leaving enough time to get from the airport to Bavaro, also, how much does a taxi cost (resonable amount) I lived in the DR last year so i know how tourist areas rip you off! Is there a taxi number which i could book a taxi with before i arrive?

thankyou for your help!

There are taxis at the airport. The cost will be about $US 25 up to 4 persons for the taxi to bring you to the Friusa bus station from where the express bus departs for Santo Domingo at 4 pm. Your arrival at PUJ at 2:30 leaves you very little wiggle room to acquire the express because it is about 20-30 min transit from the airport to the station and then it is best to arrive a half hour before bus departure to get a seat (first come-first serve rules), this means you have to depart (???) the airport by 3 pm. If you cannot get a seat on the 4 pm express, best to have the *taxi bring you to Higuey to the bus station in front of the Basilica to acquire a bus to Santo Domingo. The last bus leaves Higuey at 7 pm.

If that fails to get you out of the area go to the nearby Don Carlos Hotel for the night and take a early morning bus to the big city.

*There are local buses, gua-guas, that go to Higuey from Friusa for about RD$ 60. However, they are usually crowed, have no facility to store baggage, and have no a/c.

thankyou

Thankyou very much for your help. How much do you think the taxi to higuey would be? i have to say im tempted by the rd$60 but i know the gua guas usually take forever as well. We are trying to be as cheap as possible, is that the cheapest hotel in the area? i know its a really touristy area though, we are looking at hotel independencia (in santo domingo) prices, rd$500 for 2 for a night but i know this is prob high hopes!!

thanks again!

The taxi or express gua-gua will take about 45-60 minutes to get to Higuey. The Don Carlos is not the cheapest hotel, it is moderate priced, clean, and convenient to the bus station and basilica and shopping.

A taxi will be about US$ 45-55 to Higuey, the price can be negotiated.
