Punta Cana to Samana by road

How is the road from PUJ to Samana? Is it easy to get local transportation? How long would it take? I am looking at google map and see various options, 104 along the coast or inland... Thanks

I believe your best bet would be inland. you can do public transportation from Higuey to sabana de la mar (via El seibo, Hato Mayor) and then take the ferry to Samana.

You can do that on local buses but it is a long and bumpy ride. A smoother ride would be Expreso Bavaro to the capital and then Caribe Tours to Samana via the new highway.

Thanks for the replies - I think I'll save Samana for another trip and then go via routes suggested. Was checking to see if it was doable/practical to fly back to Toronto/Ottawa via Samana. Still looking for a deal to SDQ and home from PUJ. Thinking I should have bought my ticket when I bought my husbands... prices are going up, for August, not down...
