Hello, I'm leaving Saturday for Punta Cana. Can someone give me any info on how the beach, waves, snorkeling are? Also, how about JELLYFISH, is there a problem with them this time of year? We are staying at the Riu Bambu, any info on the RIU chain would be great. I'm thinking of renting a motorcycle to explore the roads around the resorts, any suggestions? Is it safe to drive in the daytime on a mo-ped? Any pointers for a first time Dominican visitor would be great. Thanks.

The beach is of soft white sand. The surf is usually less than 1 foot. Snorkeling is in 35 feet or less of water at the central reefs where most snorkel tours go, with good clarity, a moderate number of fish, mostly smaller, and lots of reef. Bring some food to throw in the water.

The roads around the resorts do not get much traffic, so I'd say it is safe from that perspective, but it can also be remote, so if you have a problem, help might be a good hike away. Most of the roads are freshly paved asphalt and some of the newer resorts have gravel (such as the Melia Tropical). Your hotel will be able to provide you with rental information.

For pointers, I suggest you read my report about my recent visit to Punta Cana at the link below.
