question about labadee and haitian deforestation

3. Deforestation has been so severe in Haiti, that certain animals that were widespread island wide have become extinct in much of Haiti. Their natural habitats that went from DR to Haiti now mostly ends at the border. One case is the Solenodonte habitat.

In Haiti areas with forests are in the minority. You can basically fit all of Haiti's remaining forest areas in the southern peninsula. It wasn't always like this.

Labadee is only around 5 miles from Cap Haitien. I haven't been in over 10 years but when I went, it was a rough 5 miles. Nothing paved. We did enjoy our time there.
The best example of deforestation I know is Gonaives, which is 100 miles southwest of okap. It's a decent sized city in a valley on the shore. It gets inundated with mudslides due to the surounding hills being deforested. I've seen buckets of mud in buildings and knee deep mud in roads weeks after a hurricane. Just nasty.
Wasn't/is Labadee leased by Royal Caribbean, as they use it as a cruise stop?
Not all of it. When I went close to 15 years ago, we took the jeep to labadee and saw the fenced in area of RC. Then we took a small row boat to the beach, maybe a 5 or 10 minute ride. Then we stayed on the beach and shore. Local cuisine for sale. Had a great time.
