Zach -

Can you please rephrase your question - it does not make alot of sense.

Puerto Plata is a city, province and has an airport, and is 3 1/2 - 4 hours from Santo Domingo (the capital)

Don't feel stupid there is a guy here who earned that bragging right for the next 450 years.

Herrera is domestic flights only such as POP to Herrera or from Punta Cana.

Cannot arrive there from the US, Canada, Europe etc.

Depending on where you go it may not be closer, e.g. Boca Chica, is only 10 minutes from SDQ and 45 from Herrera, and if you are going east you at least start east at SDQ.

Read the last few days and find a post

with about 10 billion replies none of them too kind, followed by an apology the next day. You are here often enough to figure it out.

Rick,
Like your new tag name, lol.

First off, the international airport close to Santo Domingo has a code of SDQ. Puerto Plata has an airport(POP) and they are about 3.5 hours by car or closer to four hours by bus. SDQ is about 20 minutes from the capital(depends on where you want to go in Santo Domingo) is a very large, spread out city with different zones and is in the south of the island(central location on the coast). POP is way up on the north side of the island on the east side. Just look at a map of the DR and you will see the difference. I hope I was of some help but I was a little confused by your post and wasn't sure what you were asking?

It's just that Herrera is domestic only.

FOLKS!!!

Herrera is an international airport. Obviously its runway is only capable of handling very small type of aircraft.

The kid is in Canada anyway, so he can't fly to Herrera easily.

Listen kid, if you want to play ball at the Parque Olimpico, fly into the Santo Domingo Jose Francisco Pena Gomez Las Americas International Airport (yes, we know, it's a mouthfull). It's about 30 minutes east of the City. There are plenty of non-stops from Toronto and there should be some flights from Montreal. From there, you can take a taxi into the City (about CDN$25). And every taxi driver will know where the Parque Olimpico is.

There are lots of cheap hotels on Duarte Avenue. Stay in one and you'll become a man real fast.
