Real Estate in the Dominican Republic continues to be one of the best values in the Caribbean.....If you know where to look. The problem for most visitors to the Island is that they only are exposed to the high end golf course communities being marketed for price tags than are higher than some places in the States. If not that, then they only see the higher end properties being marketed by the Remax folks in Santo Domingo. I have nothing against Remax, but the truth of the matter is they are just about the only firm offering information in English on the web. Their listings are not the real or entire market. For example, it is possible to purchase a decent 2 to 3 bedroom home in Residential Sections of Santo Domingo for US $45,000 and Up. Building lots in new residential developments can be purchased for about US $12,000 and up. Apartment rentals start at about $ 250 per month for a 2 to 3 bedroom apartment and go up from there. The real bargains are with the smaller firms or for sale by owner situations. In other words, the real bargains are in Spanish, not English. Anything marketed to or directed at a non-Spanish speaking tourists will cost more than what a local Dominican would pay for a similar property. In my opinion, the Dominican Republic continues to be the best value in Latin America......just do your homework.
P.S. Regardless of what any local real estate agent tells you, there
are property taxes and Capital gains taxes in the Dominican Republic !
