Hello group,

Yes, I know Reggatron is King in the DR but what about Reggae Music. I spent a lot of time in Trinidad, Jamaica and the Dominic (which has a large group of Rasta's) and I love Reggae, it's more than music but a way a life for some.

Are there any good Clubs or Cafe's or other places that I can relax and listen to some good Reggae Music? This might be popular with the younger college crowed.....Please let me know of any suggestions? I will also post this in the BC board.

Tanks in advance
Blessings Jah Rastafari! :)

In the Dominican Republic the only reggae music you might hear is Bob Marley. You wont hear Sizzla or Capelton and those kind of artists. I myself been up and down in the clubs looking for Reggae Clubs but the only thing I heard was some Bob Marley who is very populart in the DR.

Much Love and Respect.
Guidance!!!

Hi guys,

You should try La Espiral (former Ocho Puertas) en la zona Colonial. As far as I know they have reggae every sunday evening. I haven't been myself but my sister uses to go there and really likes it.

Seem that they have a blog: La Espiral But I just realized it's so not up to date. The address is: Jose Reyes Esq. Salome Ure?a #107 Zona Colonial

Keep on Jammin

You can do that but the problem is getting a DJ who knows what is hot and current. And since most of the Ragga tracks are in english you re screwed. And the bad part is with the broadband internet you can join an online record pool and essentially download all the music, cds, mp3 or playlists. Thats the bad part. There is a defunct bar in santiago that is up for sale. I was thinking about something along those lines.

Raggae music just doesn't jive with the Dominican Republic. Doinicans are very clean and neat in appearance and Rastas are very dirty. Dominicans prefer to act rich, where Rastas embrace poverty. Dominicans I know look at Rastas and think "que sucio, que asco". Then factor in that marijuana is associated with Raggae and it's a no-go for most Dominicans. If there is a club it'll be CLOSELY watched by the police for drugs (Unless of course they're being paid off).

I think you re putting your own biases in here and labeling them as those of the Dominicans. If you like Reggaeton then most likely you would also like Reggae, if you could hear it.
