Reliable mobile phone network in DR

Hi all,
I wish to pick up a Sim card for a GSM phone. A prepaid one rather for use
while on our trip. Can someone recommend me a good provider with a
decent coverage. we will be in the North and South including SD.

Any info on minutes and cost will be great.
What is the process to get a SIM.? I know in Italy and India, one has to
fill in an application to purchase a card. Some placs need to have a photo
attached as well.

Also VIVA goes GSM, they are the only that has diferents prepaid plans, the normal prepaid the cost per minute is 5.37 pesos, txt prepaid the price per minute 6.14 pesos but for each 50.00 pesos that you add to your balance you get 250 free txt messages withing the Red.

To get a sim card you just only need your passport they will make a copy and that it.
