Hello all,

I hope this post is in the appropriate forum. If not I apologize.

My mother lives in Santiago and unfortunately suffered a major stroke a few months ago that has left her in a vegetative state. We are caring for her at home and doing our best to navigate the situation but there are gaps in our knowledge and its hard to find information online for questions when have when they arise.

For example, we've been having trouble finding food for her sometimes as she is currently being tube fed and the liquid food she eats is not very well stocked. Also hoping to find a neurologist that specializes in strokes for a second opinion and more post-stroke rehab options. Are there any sort of support groups based in Santiago for stroke survivors and their families that might be a good resource?

The helpfulness from her doctors vary as they are of course very busy and its hard to get answers for questions we have sometimes. Would appreciate any insight. Thank you in advance.

As someone who has lived in Santiago now for almost 10 years, I've never heard of any support groups
however La Union Medical seems to offer the best services in the city when it comes to trauma related injuries.
Perhaps someone over their could point you in the right direction.

You also may want to ask if anyone on this forum knows how to reach "Hill Billy" because he would be the first
person I'd ask about anything like this in Santiago. This fella's mind is an encyclopedia when it comes to his knowledge
of the Cibao region and the DR in general.

I'd do a search for "hogar de hospicios" in Santiago and start from there..

Here's one:
