I actually remember when he was on the Jays that last year. I think '79. Solid veteran at that time.

RIP Rico

I remember him but I didn't know he played for the Braves in Milwaukee. I think I was 11 when they moved to Atlanta. It's sad but 85 is a pretty long life and hopefully he wanted for nothing.

When Mr AE was a little boy, maybe 8-10 years old, there was an apartment building near his house where many many baseball players stayed each winter to play ball in Santo Domingo. They all hung out in a restaurant/bar almost next door and he got to know them all. He remembers Rico Carty was “a big guy”. There were American ball players too, including Mickey Mantle. Ask him about it next time we see you. (I’ll have more DVDs if you want them)

8 years old to about 12 is the perfect age for that. I remember being in awe of anything that even remotely resembled a ball player. I was actually 15 when I inintentionally/intentionally bumped Red Schoendiest. I told everybody in the universe that "I touched Red Schoendiest."
