rio san juan nightlife?

i'm visiting in a couple of weeks and just wondered if anyone knows of any good nightclubs/bars in rio san juan. me and my friends often like to go out away from hotels and any tips would be appreciated, thankyou :)

Just got back from Rio San Juan b4 Xmas, [snore]

Sorry, to confirm that you will not find anything going on in Rio San Juan [proper] after the sun goes down. Great place to drop off the edge of the known world never to be seen again.

There is an outdoor bar/restaraunt with a dance floor near the Laguna not sure of the name, but they are open til 12 anyway. On the highway, just West of the entrance to town, is the rather sleazy Nuevemillenium disco, complete with Bachata/Merengue at earsplitting volume and an array of "house girls" available as partners for dancing or whatever other activities desired. Prior to the new laws, this was one of those places that didn't really get going til 1 or 2 AM, and was open til 5 or later. Not sure how it is now.

I don't know how much help I can be but I was there the last week of Jan. During the week everthing closes at midnight. However on ther weekend (sat the best) everyone is having a great time. there are numberous bars/clubs along the Rio San Juan basin/boat dock. You have to be at the happening (Amweican/Canadina mUsic) club early for entry or you can't get in. There is one place we went to & I wouldn't have known it was there if it wasn't for my bf (all dancing, there was tables outside the club but none inside the club). If you like dancing this is great. If you befriend a local they will know what i'm talking about. If you want to party there is a party to be found!!!

when i went there i had a dominican security guard from Sosua Bay hotel with me. we did some dominican bars and some other places tourists don't go.
so i'm not much help on names but for the guys i think the nightlife is pretty unspoiled by the "ugly" tourists and foreigners...
