I'm wondering how safe it is inside the premises for the all inclusive beach hotels in Boca Chica and Juan Dolio. Do they have sufficient security?

Has anyone heard of robberies or violent crime taking place against foreigners at the resorts?

What would be considered the safest hotel(s) around that area? We don't plan on leaving the hotel grounds except for a taxi to and from the airport.

You're gunna be pretty safe in the hotel itself. Hamaca is pretty hot in Boca, plenty security, but really, anywhere in Boca is more of a sentence than a vacation. I give the place a couple of visits each year to see how it fairs up and over the last 7 or 8 years it's gone from crap and filthy, to diabolical and rancid. The beach resorts in Juan dolio are less secure but still secure enough, juan dolio is much more relaxed and on a Caribbean level, but I'd struggle to spend more than a weekend there either. These places are barely holding onto holiday resort status, there are much better options here.

Hamaca in Boca Chica is ok. Barcel? Capella en JD sucks in my opinion. There isn't a decent AI this side of La Romana in my opinion and I have tried most many times.

Hi Juan Dolio is very quiet i have stayed there for the past 6 years the hotels are safe well i know capella, Talenquera which is now known as the 3 roses is good as long as you dont leave laptops ect laying about in your rooms keep them locked up. Coral costa caribe is very nice too they all have sequiry guards and have been safe and my kids grew up there too. There is a lot of beach sellers that work on the beach but they dont give u many problems if anything they just want to have a look at what they are selling. But it is very quiet there remember there is not much to do at nights expect watch the entertainment at the hotels. Boca chica is ok it is completely different to juan dolio there is a lot more going on. I have a house in boca chica and have stayed in the hotels in boca chica the hamica is good and so is dominican bay they all have guards and seem tgo be safe. Its like running the gaunlet at night in boca chica streets as its very busy.

The real danger is slipping on some wet tiles or walking through a glass door.

You may think I'm being trite, but if you have an accident, forget about suing the resort, and you better have your own insurance. I think some guy bleed to death a year or two back walking through a glass door that wasn't made with safety glass. People slip all the time in the bathrooms, because the floors are almost always slick tile and they don't put down bath mats. There are many subtle safety features in the US that you can't take for granted in the DR and tort law favors the property owners.

ABC just did a segment on Groupon and Don Juan's last night. The "reporter" was in shock that prostitution and beach vendors are alive and well in Boca Chica. She was so uptight that it was actually funny.

We stayed in JD last year, not at an AI, (can't remember the name)and it was a holiday weekend, which meant every other dominican from SDQ was there; some with bbq grills and tables strapped atop their cars. Having said that; we felt extremely secure, and at ease, moreso than Boca, where I was warned not to stick my arm out the window while in the car, as my watch would be snatched off my arm by a passing moto. I'd coose JD over Boca any day, AI or no.
