Hi,

I am visiting DR in November and landing at STI at about 1:30 in the afternoon. (I was booked to fly into POP but Continental changed their schedule and now flies to POP only on Friday, Saturday, Sunday from Newark).

Anyway, I am staying at Iberostar Puerto Plata, and would appreciate any information on how much a taxi would cost from airport to hotel. (the transfer from POP airport is supposed to be included in my package, but that won't do me much good). I am traveling with my wife, 15 year old son and 8 year old daughter.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Find out what company your current transfers are with, if it's with Prieto Tours they go to either airport to do pick-ups and transfers to POP. You're looking at a pretty long ride from STI to ICD (about 2 to 2 1/2 hours) so you might want to utilize it. Just make sure your travel agency changes airport pick-up location. My travel agency and various trips that I have booked online have provided transfers through Prieto Tours and they have always been reliable, the mini-bus clean and air-conditioned. Hope this helps.

boricua_girl is way off. That ride is not more than an hour and 20 minutes....

Palomalinda0890@hotmail.com is a highly recommended entity. English speaking, punctual and courteous. Ask Rocío how long a ride it is. Betcha she says 1: 30 on the outside....

HB I don't think I'm way off at all, I just came back from a trip to POP last week and that's how long it took me to get to Breezes from STI airport which is way before ICD. It took me an additional 30 minutes from Breezes to the Malecon in POP. But maybe you know of better route :0)

We do the POP - STI airport route weekly..........

.............and with or without traffic, speeding and not speeding, it ALWAYS seems to be between 1 hour and 20 minutes and 1 hour and 30 minutes...from the entrance to Costambar to the parking lot of STI......just no way around it......You'd have to add about another 10 to 15 minutes to Iberostar, since we are leaving from the Costambar side of POP...........

between the traffic during the day in Santiago, the trucks( going both ways, thus cutting down on passing) along Route 5 to Puerto Platta, and the construction mess route 5 is currently, all through Puerto Platta itself.............there is no way a sane person makes that trip in 1 hour and 30 minutes......

I think route 25 is the fastest way to the Playa Dorado area, and POP airport from STI.....route 21 is faster to cabarette, to Sosua both 21 and 25 are about the same.....at least the way i drive.

If you get car sick easy...take Route 5...the long way.....just enjoy the sights....

I went to Sosua last week via route 5 ..maybe 1 or 2 cars passed me the whole trip....I passed 100s of cars, and trucks... and it still took over 2-1/4 hours.

The Bus probably only takes the rte 5, route... and they Haul, when they have room!!!! but they cant pass many trucks...

take the taxi..its more money but remember the driver has to come back!! and he probably doesnt get a fare to drive on the way back either...

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Since I have no choice, but to fly into STI, whether it takes 1 and half hour or 2 and half hours, it does not matter, except for the return trip when I have to start that much earlier from the hotel. My dates are still a month and half away, so construction delays can change either way.

My travel agency wants to chanrge me $50 per person ($200 total) for return transfers from STI.

Looking at all the options to get lowest price for a taxi, Hillbillys looks the best, and I haven't read anything bad about Rocio/JJ in other forum topics. Rocio has quoted me $60 each way.

Thanks again
